HowboutthemCowboys
News: In an interview with CBSSports.com, Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he was named the starting RB for Week 8 against the Eagles. Peterson said coach Brad Childress "gave me the nod Wednesday." The rookie, who leads the NFL with 670 yards rushing, said "I'll be the starter from now on." from cbs so..... and still sharing I'm sure, but maybe Childress is coming around and wil give him a bigger workload. Randall
Kind of sorry Childress came to his senses but wonder if this means more carries or just a different rotation.
Fatman
Kind of sorry Childress came to his senses but wonder if this means more carries or just a different rotation. Sounds like more carries: Oct 24 Peterson could see more carries this week with Chester Taylor limited in practice with a sore hamstring and with head coach Brad Childress saying his role "will increase as we go through the rest of the football season," the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Seahawks21
Applause to Childress for making the youngster wait. These kinds of messages send positive thoughts through the heads of veterans. They now know that if they work hard and do their thing, they won't be thrown to the side the second some young talent joins the team. In the NFL, where getting the players to buy into your coaching philosophies is literally at least half of the battle, Childress is the guy that is finally going to get this team playing together and moving in the right direction. Fatman
From Yahoo: Oct 26 Chester Taylor (groin) had full participation in practice on Friday, meaning Peterson will once again come off the bench this week against the Eagles. Recommendation: Head coach Brad Childress hinted this week that he'll get Peterson more carries as the season goes along, but for now it looks like Taylor is healthy and will start and split the carries. Still, Peterson leads the league in rushing despite being used in a two-back system.

However the NFL also isn't peewee football either where every kid gets to play and there are no winners or losers. The NFL is played with men who, on average, probably will make more in a few years then the average US citizen makes in a lifetime. Experience is definitely a valuable asset on a team and there is no substitute for it, however skill and talent also are major factors too. Veterans shouldn't have to worry all the time about someone new coming in and stealing their job, but they also shouldn't be granted a free pass either just because they are a veteran either. Peterson has 108 rushes for 670 yards (6.2 yards) for 5 TDs. Taylor has had 43 rushes for 188 yards (4.2 yards) and ZERO TDs. While it's probably no more then a label calling Taylor the #1 back or "starter" when Peterson does more, more often, do you really think it's going to send any different thought through the heads of veterans by calling Peterson what he really should be?
