detlef
The problem of perception in all of this is that the actions of the Patriots towards the end of the game only fed a sentiment that already existed. It is not the first time people have called them out for a lack of sportsmanship, I remember them inserting players like Vrabel and others in blowouts just to run trick plays and give them a touchdown. Didn't they let Flutie kick a field goal for giggles in one game that was well in hand? It is just perceived as disrespect to the opponent and a lack of sportsmanship displayed to all who watch including kids that want to mimic behavior. The Pats are perfectly free to run up scores or just kneel on the ball and in the end all that matters for the game is the win or loss. But it will come back to haunt them at some later date when they are stuggling again. Unfortunately that may end up to be a burden for some other coach to incur after Belichick leaves. It feels good to fans to see their team roll up big wins which is undeniable. And it is perceived as a lack of sportsmanship and respect by others when they do it. It does not offend my personal sensibilities that they do that though for the "good of the game" it would be preferable that they didn't IMO. And they are just stoking the coals of a fire that will burn later against them. Well said.

Exactly, the fire has begun to blaze and the future you speak of could very well be this season, as there is a lot of football left this year. Gdawg
I believe NE is making a statement ... "we don't need to cheat to win" Mangini (sp?) lit a fire under them that is not likely to be extinguished until Brady hoists his 4th Lombardi Trophy. This is the most spot-on post in this entire thread, IMHO.
