Defensive Fantasy Points

Our league is currently trying to decide whether or not it would like to change formats as some members feel it has grown a bit stale. What has now come under fire is our scoring system, particularly the defense. One member stated his belief is that fantsy football should be won/lost with offensive skill players and that our defenses were winning too many games. It is really a huge exageration on his part as QB scoring almost mirrors that of our defenses. I am curious to know what and how the defenses in your leagues are scored? We currently have a system based on points allowed. Also they get points for TD's scored by the D (ie: INT returned for a TD) If a defense has a great game it typically is around 35 points. Thanks in advance.....

I run my local the same way, D's can average very good points, as much as any other position. If they have a real bad day, they can see -20 to -35 just as easily. It keeps everyone honest and from loading up on just rb's.

i am a fan of PA, YA, sacks, int's, fr's, adjusted pts for kr and pr

edit: levels things off if you have negative scoring for when the d let's up a lot of pts (like wash last weekend)

Here's ours--CBS League:

BFB - Blocked Field Goals (ID/ST/DST) 3 points

BP - Blocked Punts (ID/ST/DST) 3 points

BXP - Blocked Extra Points (ID/ST/DST) 1 point

DFR - Defensive/ST Fumble Recovered (ID/DT/DST) 3 points

DFTD - Defensive TD 6 points

Plus 3 points for a DFTD of 50+ Yds

Int - Interceptions 3 points

PA - Points Against, Total Points Scored 0 - 0 PAs = 25 points

1 - 7 PA = 15 points

8 - 14 PA = 12 points

15 - 21 PA = 9 points

22 - 28 PA = 6 points

29 - 35 PA = 3 points

36 - 42 PA = 0 points

43+ PAs = -10 points (negative)

SACK - Sack 3 points

Plus a 3 point bonus @ 4+ SACK

STTD - Special Teams TD 6 points

Plus 3 points for a STTD of 50+ Yds

STY - Safety 5 points (Since they are rare, we added more than the "standard" 2 points)

Comment: We like it and have adjusted it over the 5 years since we established this league. Like previously stated, D/ST point swings can make or break a game, and adds a "complete" element to FF games. Typical scoring is an average of 20-25 points.

Why not go to IDP rather than team D?

That should spice it up some.... :D

IDP would be good...only problem is we have 3-4 fairly inactive owners that occaisionally are "off the ball". Am afraid that would nmake it worse. For instance, the 1-6 owner last week with first shot at Jesse Chatman on waivers, picked up Antonio! Needless to say we worked his dumba$$ hard. :D

Thanks for the responses as well....
