Rest of Season Rankings

At QB, Carson Palmer is ranked #2 ahead of Manning and Romo. I would think both Romo and Manning would be easily ahead of Palmer. It seems like he has been struggling lately. I have Palmer, so I would like to see him be the #2 guy.

At Team Defense, Ravens are #1. They are middle of the road on turnovers and sacks. They do have a couple punt returns for touchdowns which ranks them 11th in our league's scoring system. Should they be that high? They just got dropped in my league and are available on waivers, but they don't seem to be much better than what I've got.

Is there moe to Palmer and the Ravens than the statistics have shown so far?

Palmer should improve once Henry returns.

Is he back this week? 8 week suspension and this is Week 9 right?

He has been cleared to practice with CIN by the NFL, but his earliest possible return is Week 10 (CIN's bye week does not count toward the eight week suspension).

edit to add: :D

Henry returns to field, but only for practice

By Kevin Goheen

Post staff reporter

Bengals receiver Chris Henry was allowed to return to practice Wednesday by the NFL.

Chris Henry held his right ring finger in pain. The finger was dislocated during Wednesday's practice, making for a rough return to the practice field for the Bengals wide receiver. The fact that Henry was back on the field at all was a good sign for the Bengals, however.

It will be 18 more days before Henry can suit up and play in a game but the NFL on Wednesday granted the wide receiver permission to rejoin the team for practices while he completes the final two weeks of an eight-game suspension. Henry is eligible to return to the team's roster following the Nov. 4 game at Buffalo and play at Baltimore on Nov. 11.

In two seasons with the Bengals, Henry has 67 receptions for 1,027 yards and 15 touchdowns as the No. 3 receiver behind Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

The team has made Henry off-limits for comment while he serves his suspension.

"It's an indication that Chris is doing things correctly as far as league guidelines go," said head coach Marvin Lewis. "That's my interpretation of it and that he'll have an opportunity to get his football wind and legs back under him over the next two weeks. When he comes off suspension, then we're going to have to make a decision on him."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Henry on April 10, the same day Goodell suspended Tennessee cornerback Adam Jones for the entire 2007 season. Henry was arrested five times in three different states from November 2005 through March of this year. The final incident involved three driving citations which were ultimately dropped.

Henry was allowed to participate in offseason activities, training camp and preseason games under terms of the suspension but once the regular season began he has been limited to attending team meetings. Henry led the team in the preseason with 14 catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns. He played with the first unit at times as well as late in the preseason games with the second and third units.

Offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said Henry has been at most of those meetings, although on some occasions he has had prior commitments he has had to keep. Bratkowski noted Henry looked a little out of shape, as would be expected for a player who hasn't played football since the Sept. 1 preseason finale against Indianapolis, but having an extra two weeks of practice before his eligible return should do nothing but help Henry.

"There were a few (meetings) that he probably could have been here for and there were a few he had things going on. But he's here now. And he'll be here and be in all the meetings and he'll be able to go out and practice," said Bratkowski. "The thing about Chris, this is his third year with us and the great part was that he had all the preseason and training camp. In the meetings he was sitting in on, he knew what we were doing, the way we're structured. It's just going to come down to his physical ability to be ready to play against Baltimore."

Henry worked with the scout team Wednesday. The dislocated finger was not the result of a throw from quarterback Carson Palmer. Palmer did notice Henry being back at practice, a notion that stirred Palmer's interest.

"I'm excited. As soon as we get him back I'm fired up," said Palmer. "How can you not be? His production speaks for itself. And it will be great when we get him back."

I know these rankings have taken a pounding, but I'm not really clear on how to use them. Unless I want to add Deshaun Wynn to a roster before I would Ryan Grant, the list doesn't seem to fit the purpose of roster decisions. If a draft were to be held tomorrow, I'm not really sure if I'd draft Travis Henry before several players listed behind him either.

DMD set the initial Rest of Season rankings and when I took them over after week 1 the Ravens were ranked #4(pretty much in line with most sites)

Week 3 they moved up to number #3 due to my dropping the Chargers to #4 due to their horrbile game vs NE and coupled with the fact that Jamal Willliams was injured in the game.

Week 4 the Ravens slid back to #4 because I moved Pitt up to #3

Week 5 I saw no reason to make any adjustments in the Top 7

Week 6 saw the Ravens stay put at #4 with Pitt moving up to #2

Week 7 is when I bumped the Ravens up to #1 overall (for 2 main reasons their most recent performance vs STL and the poor performances of other top 5 teams):

Ravens – Moving Up

Get your abacus out for this game. The Ravens had 5 interceptions, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble & 1 fumble recovery. All that was missing was the defensive TD. Granted this is not the same Rams team that was known as the Greatest Show on Turf but still that was a very impressive defensive effort by the Ravens.

Week 8 They stayed at #1 because they were on a bye...i find it hard to move a team down when they had a bye week.

The Ravens may have under performed to expectations thru 8 weeks but the ROS rankings are supposed to show where a team ranks if there were a draft at that point of the season. Next week the Ravens should be getting Trevor Pryce back(broken wrist in week 2) in the lineup and that will help their pass rush. That is also good news for those in IDP leagues that have Terrell Suggs as teams will not be able to double team him as much. Yes the Ravens do have a tough schedule and if they do not improve their play then they will slide down the rankings. However, this is a defense with play makers and pedigrees and they do have some juicy match-ups(Cleve, Mia, Sea) as well as some difficult ones (NE, Indy)....For me it comes down to how the Ravens come out and play after their bye week...if they still struggle they will fall.

Thanks for the explanation Keggerz. I guess I was hoping I could use the "rest of season rankings" as a gauge for players on the rest of the season and not just an estimate on how they've done up to that point. (The name of the list seems to suggest that's how it would be used...)

I don't doubt BAL is getting some healthy players back and that should help things, but its hard to ignore their upcoming schedule. I'm trying to make adjustments before things take a turn for the worse....not after.

Other then the MIA and SEA games (week 15/16) none of the other games look favorable at all. You mentioned the CLE game as a juicy matchup but it can't be ignored that CLE is playing with a top 10 offense this year in points and yards. In their earlier matchup CLE rang up 27 pts, 300 yards and allowed 0 sacks and only 1 turnover. Not exactly a stellar performance from the Ravens in my league scoring format.

Just a note on the WRs.....and I could have just missed it, but I didn't see Chris Henry on the list. I know there is nothing to go on, but he is probably a bit more valuable than many on the list...

Yeah he should definitely be on the list especially with Chad Johnson's injury issue. Also the Lions D is #14 overall and they should be a bit higher as well. Oh and Steve Smith should not remain as the #3 WR overall. Hell he shouldn't be in the Top 5 as he is just hanging onto his Top 10 status.

the lions were very inconsistent from week to week....now they have put together to very good performances back to back and the d seems to be coming together so they were hugh movers in this weeks rankings and if they continue to improve they will continue to move up

Not sure we can consider Cleveland a juicy matchup for a defense anymore. Definitely a good matchup for the opposing offense though (not that the Ravens have anything that resembles an offense).

when i wrote that Anderson had thrown 8 INTS and been sacked 8 times in his last 7 games...with as much as Clev is passing and how Balt is at ball hawking I looked at that as a juicy matchup for Balt especially with it being played in BALT.

In week 4 against Cleveland Baltimore had 1 int, no sacks, and gave up 27 points. I think that was with both of their starting corners playing. Think I'll look for a juicier matchup. :D
