irish
Vikings: Peterson to get an MRI 11/11/07 06:16 PM THE NEWS Vikings head coach said running back Adrian Peterson suffered a sprained right knee, but the rookie will need to undergo an MRI to get a more definitive diagnosis, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "I was in pain there for a minute there and it slowly went away," Peterson told the paper. "Right now, I'm banking it's a sprained knee." Fantasy owners are not in the clear yet. While the initial word from the team is positive, nothing will be known for sure until the results from the MRI are known.
theeohiostate
So it appears a strained knee is best case scenario, correct? What kind of time will he need to heal for that? Any ideas?

I'm no doctor, but I would guess it depends on how bad it's sprained?? May play next week, may not...

Andre Johnson sprained his knee in 8 weeks ago.
Crazysight
Could be a torn ACL. They are often initially diagnosed as sprains, as they aren't as painful as other tears If it is actually only a sprain than it may not be too bad, or it could be another Andre Johnson-type case. Talking out of your a$$. Tearing an ACL was the most pain I have EVER felt, and there is no way you can jog up and down the sidelines with the instability that comes with a torn ACL. He got hit on top of the knee while it was flexed, and not planted. I seriously doubt any serious ligament injury occurred...

Crazysight
Yeah I didn't read the jogging on the sideline bit. He wouldn't be doing that if it were a torn ligament. There's pain in any type of ligament injury, be it a sprain or a tear (otherwise known as a "grade 3" sprain). I've never sustained an ACL tear myself, so I guess I am essentially talking out of my ass regarding the pain, but I have read before that ACLs are the least painful of the 3 different knee ligament tears (though I'm sure the pain differs with the level of severity), however they take the longest time to heal. I've also seen plenty of players in the NFL listed with initial diagnoses of simple knee sprains over the years that ended up actually being ACL tears after the MRI was done. But, as was said, he wouldn't have been doing all the work on the sideline had it been a tear of any kind. RJV
I tore my ACL in a Hockey game in College and let me tell you it DOES NOT TICKLE. Youcan walk off under your own power BUT cutting, jogging heh not likely
cre8tiff
I had a partial tear of my ACL, that hurt briefly, then faded. It was torn like 30%. They couldn't manipulate my knee because it was still so tight, but the Authroscope showed the damage.

I'm no doctor, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express either, but didn't Duece McAllister jog on the side lines after the tore his ACL earlier this season? Hopefully Peterson is ok, but my first thought was ACL.

Hopefully Peterson is ok, but my first thought was ACL. Perhaps I'm just being optimistic but I'm focusing on the "jogging up and down the sidelines". That seems a bit different than jogging off the field. There's still adrenaline and such working for you right after it happens. Again, I'm no more informed than you are about this, so... Itsnottatooma
Didn't Olandis Gary once play a whole game at RB with a torn ACL? Back in 2000 I think. Although if I remember right, the story was that he hurt it earlier that week in practice but kept mum about it until after the game was over. Although if I remember right, the story was that he hurt it earlier that week in practice but kept mum about it until after the game was over. That would be impressive. I certainly remember Edgerrin James being questionable with a sprained knee for a week and a half before they realized he had a torn ACL. So it's best to wait and not make too much of jogging on the sidelines. I thought it looked most similar to the Brandon Jacobs injury in week 1 which I believe was a sprained MCL for a 3-5 week diagnosis.
Double Agent
The hit looked very similar to the one Jones-Drew had. I bet he's sore this week but ready to play. A.D. is a tough sob.
