Fantasy Jesus
http://dolphinsindepth.blogspot.com/ "The Dolphins will announce later this afternoon that Beck, the team's rookie second-round draft pick, will make his first NFL start against the Eagles Sunday according to a source. Beck will replace Cleo Lemon, who has started the past four games after replacing Trent Green, who is out for the season with concussion issues. Beck will make his debut in one of the NFL's unfriendliest environments against the blitzing, pressuring defense Eagles defensive coordinator Jimmie Johnson likes to run. Earlier this week coach Cam Cameron said the venue would not determine which quarterback he would pick as his starter." So instead of starting Beck after a BYE where he would have had 2 weeks to prepare for the beatable Buffalo Bills at home Cam Cameron in all his wisdom decides NOW is the time to start 2nd rd draft pick John Beck. Dolphins next 2 games . . . Week 11 - AT Philadelphia Week 12 - AT Pittsburgh Talk about getting thrown to the wolves. I guess we'll find out very soon if Beck has the balls and ability to be an NFL QB. Good job stupid.
satelliteoflovegm
Maybe he'd actually be a little less nervous not having to impress the home crowd, those 100 or so fans could really get ugly. They really thought they'd beat the Bills and it wouldn't be an issue. They were talking trash during the game about winning. I do think the pressure is off in hostile stadium, the crowd noise and JJ's blitzes might be a different issue. Bump up the Eagles defense this week perhaps. Gdawg
You'd think starting Beck against the Bills last week would have been the wiser course of action, would have given him two weeks to prepare and he'd get to start in front of the home crowd. I don't get it either
Fantasy Jesus
those 100 or so fans could really get ugly. Other than the Patriots game the Dolphins have been IN games for the most part. They had the Bills too. Ginn's return for a TD gets called back and the team collapses in the 4th quarter . . . . again and again and again.

Were/are there any injured linemen that recently came back? Perhaps they were trying to shore up the line and get Chatman stable before throwing the rook out there? SheikYerbuti
Yet another reason why I'm taking Philly in my survivor pool.
Belushi
God I hope Beck doesn't kill Chatman's value. Although I doubt he'll be much worse than Lemon.

Might enhance it with dump-offs screens and whatnot. You never know. Wouldn't play any MIA receiver, though Martin might be decent.

xtra
Hes going to have to play good defenses eventually, why not put him in there and let him learn, get a head start next year.Maybe Cameron thinks hes good enough to handle it,

Ditkaless Wonders
I wonder why the don't control the situation a litttle more. Me, I'd ease him into action. I'd start by letting him run a script of 15 plays so they could be well rehearsed. I'd provide him with two blitz check downs to audible out of those plays. After the 15 plays I'd go back to the veteran for the rest of the game. The next week I'd give him another script of 15 plays with one more audible and let him run those. The third week I'd pick his best 20 plays from the first two weeks and script those. I'd keep the situation controlled and give a high probability of success. If the break in period is protracted so what? They are doing nothing this year. I want my new guy to know success and to not get shell shocked early in his career. Gdawg
Sorry you Dolphin Fans have to suffer through this, but it is comforting, in a way, to see that other teams have AWFUL, AWFUL coaches Edited November 15, 2007 by Gdawg

MTSuper7
Might as well get Beck some playing experience since the season is shot. And you might as well let him play the whole game too... See how he handles adversity, let him find a rhythm in the game, etc. - if he doesn't have the mental toughness to stay confident and play his best regardless of what's happened to him, better to find that out sooner than later. The more playing time he gets, the better...
Little Big Head
on a positive note, the Miami run game has been very effective this year. R.Brown was having a great season up until he went on IR, and Chatman has a nice ypc avg. so far. Like another poster said, they havent been blown out in games this year. Their best LB has been hurt, and Taylor is down now. They lost their starting saftey Bell earlier in the season. They have a developing wr in Ginn. While things dont look great for this season, I think their is some reason for optimism for next year, especially if Beck shows us anything out of the gate
xMRogers
" I guess we'll find out very soon if Beck has the balls and ability to be an NFL QB. " Here's the problem with this - you may not. Considering what these two defenses will do to him, after two games he may be shell shocked and suck past that point for the year, and then be given up on. It's amazing to me people don't learn from the difference between Tim Couch and Tony Romo that happens again and again. Yes, there are a few guys that are good enough to start from day 1. There are a few others that getting their heads bashed in won't set them back. But for the most part, if you were drafted past the first 20 picks, sit for a while is the best way to be the long term solution for that team, and sure as heck don't start off with two road games against first a great blitz scheme team, then just a flatout great hard hitting defense.
