I have never been to Austria but I have spent a little time in Switzerland. Good times.
Atlanta Cracker
as i am contemplating a ski trip to austria or switzerland in earlier jan: breakfast: bacon and onion roesti, cappuccino just openned my little 5L of paulaner oktoberfest lunch/dinner: fodue w/ apples, pears, chicken/apple sausage, smoked brat I went skiing in Innsbrook once (with a G.F. that couldn't ski). Lemme tell you, a whole different experience than skiing in the US. Trails aren't marked nearly as well and even the "green" slopes offer the potential of falling to your death should you get out of control on the wrong side. Crazy stuff but great fun!! Plus they have beer by the Yard at many of the pubs there!
Bier Meister
I would be interested in hearing where you end up going. I have never been to Austria but I have spent a little time in Switzerland. Good times. i am off the 1st 2 weeks in jan, so trying to plan something... am thinking about arlberg, au; kitzbuhl, au; zermatt, ch; cortina, it; or val gardenia (austrian/italian border)...... right now air is pretty crazy, so may alter things: one of my closest friends lives in albequerque, so might do 4 days in taos, then hang at home for a little bit and then do a week in either telluride, or wolf creek. Atlanta Cracker
right now air is pretty crazy The whole reason I ended up in Austria was a crazy air sale to Vienna. Keep your ears peeled and be flexible and you should be ok for that time of year. Pretty much all you have to do is get to the continent and travel by train to your final destination is very easy.
