"it's a shame that half of America won't get to watch because the game is on the NFL Network". The NFL isn't going to take that comment lying down I am thinking. When he said it I told DrBob.... whoa, Aikmen could be in trouble here. LOL (I had made the same comment as Aikmen about 10 minutes before.) They had an article in Dallas about Jerry slamming Time Warner this week and it said that Comcast had sent the NFL a cease and desist letter to stop telling people to drop Comcast. Actually, it's only DirecTV that they like (not that the others are relevant anyway) because of the exclusive deal that they have with them. But it's just a matter of time before they kick DirecTV to the curb and broadcast everything on NFL Network... and charge $400 per year for the package. Patriots Posted November 23, 2007 Share Posted November 23, 2007 It was my understanding that the NFL does not want too many people to have access to the NFL package and that is why it is offered on Direct TV and not cable. The reason being is that they can then control what the Mass public watches. So whatever game is on at 1:00 you will watch because there is no choice. I also heard that they want Comcast to offer the NFL Network on the basic cable package or something to that effect. They are having trouble selling adverising b/c they don't have the subscribers. I have the NFL network though Comcast. Its $5.95/month and you also get 2 or 3 Foxsports channels as well. BS Miscreant Posted November 23, 2007 Share Posted November 23, 2007 Don't know how much of the country has it available to them yet but I have Verizon Fios(fiber optics; ie the new, better version of cable). NFL Network(and HD) is part of the basic package. If I knew more about that stuff, I'd be telling people to buy stock in Verizon. It's spreading like crazy here in central Florida. They want the NFL Network on basic(non big money) cable but the cable companies want you to have to buy many high profot channels to get it. Cable companies have to pay 75 cents for the channel and rather than passing that cpost on they want to use it to sell channels you may or may not want. These are part time games, running from Thanksgiving on so the pool is probably small. Who would you suggest instead? I'm not sure Fox or CBS would let them borrow anyone. For the NFL Network, both DirecTV and Dish offer it in their more basic packages. I had received several e-mails from NFL saying to tell Comcast to put NFLN on their basic package. Comcast isn't that great but they are at least insisting that people that want NFL Network should pay for it rather than upping the rate for all their subscribers, the vast majority of whom are not in the least interested. Comcast put NFL Network straight into the Sports Package, which I already had so it cost me nothing. Correct, and I appreciate the way the Joe Buck/Troy Aikman team calls a game. Buck has no problem mentioning other networks, which used to be highly discouraged in network broadcasting. Aikman has even been criticized for being "anti-Cowboy" in the Dallas media, which I think is unjustified.
