whomper
Which is kinda like the NFL....happens all the time. For argument sake, suppose the Pats had lost a few games this year....theoretically, both the Packers and Cowboys could enter the playoffs with a better record than the winner of the other AFC. So what? And just like the NFL, we keep our conferences the same every year, so the ebb and flow of which conference is better changes from year to year. But this is fantasy sports..Not the real NFL. Im not kncoking your system..If you and the league members are happy its all that matters..It was just an outside observation..
myhousekey
12 teams 6 make the playoffs based on overall record If multiple teams are tied with the same record the tiebreaker is as follows: If all tied teams have the same # of common games against one another you rank them based on head to head wins (1 pt for a win. 0 pts for a tie, -1 point for a loss) If tied teams do not have the same # of common games against one another they are ranked by total points scored for the season. i_am_the_swammi
But this is fantasy sports..Not the real NFL. Im not kncoking your system..If you and the league members are happy its all that matters..It was just an outside observation.. No offense was taken...didn't mean to sound defensive. Just the way we do things. But your also has its drawbacks, assuming you have divisions (you didn't mention if you did) In your league, suppose there is one OK team in a division, but the other three (or five, or whatever) are downright dreadful. The OK team compiles a great record, based on beating up the other teams in his division twice a season, even though perhaps they lost every non-divisional game. Doesn't your format reward this OK team for being just average when comapred to the entire league, even though their record might be inflated because they beat up on lousy teams that just happened to all be in their division? They might earn a bye, based on a great record over weak teams, but be worse than most of the teams on the other division. Or am I missing something? Grits and Shins
My local 12 team league has 4 divisions of 3 teams. Four division winners make the playoffs and the two teams with the best record, regardless of division, get the last two wild cards. Teams are seeded 1 thru 6, division winners are 1 thru 4 and wild cards are 5 and 6. Seeds 1 and 2 get a bye the first week 3rd seed plays the 6th seed 4th seed plays the 5th seed From that point forward the top seed gets the worst remaining seed. ------ In another 12 team league we have 2 conferences with 2 divisions of 3 teams each. Each conference sends 2 division winners and 1 wildcard to the playoffs. Teams are seeded the same as above with the same bracket play. ------ In another 12 team league we have 3 divisions of 4 teams. 3 division winners + the highest scoring team not in the playoffs + the 2 teams with the best record (regardless of division) make the playoffs. High pionts team is the 4th seed. Same bracket play as above.
user454545
12 team league, 8 teams go to playoffs, ranked by overall record, then points scored. bottom 4 go to toilet bowl. re-seed after each round of the playoffs. also, worst point total on the year has to pay the entry fee again. keeps the bottom teams from dropping out. Thews40
High points league, 12 teams, two divisions of 6, all teams make the playoffs with the top two getting two-week byes in weeks 12 and 13. Weeks 1-11 have all teams play each other once. Week 12 and 13 pits the bottom 4 in each division against each other for a combined total of both weeks to advance. #3 team in each division gets to pick their opponent, with the top two teams in each division playing each other for the division (byes). The two teams that were not picked by the #3 team play each other. Week 14 starts the real playoffs with the division winner picking their opponent within the division (note they can choose to play the #2 team again if they want to). Week 15 pits the top two in each division against each other. Week 16 Superbowl. Since the #1 and #2 money spots are paid based on total points, the SB winner gets about 20%. Every year, no matter how bad a team did all year, they all have two playoff games starting on Thanksgiving weekend. No one is ever out of it until after week 14, so we've never had anyone throw in the towel. Non standard format, but it is a lot of fun. One year, the total points leader was sitting at 3-8 as pretty much every team had a banner week when they played him.
CarryTheRock
We do top three division winners, three wildcard. Wildcards are determined by W/L, then points scored in season, head to head if needed. Top two get first round bye, others are seeded. After each round it's re-seeded as needed.
