Donovan McNabb missed a third straight day of practice Friday and afterward head coach Andy Reid listed his quarterback as doubtful for Sunday's game in New England. Backup quarterback A.J. Feeley took the first-team reps all week and would start if McNabb can't play.

Ankle and thumb injuries, sustained in the first half of last Sunday's win over the Dolphins, prevented McNabb from working with his teammates the last three days. And though Reid said earlier in the week that McNabb could play Sunday night without taking part in team workouts, the "doubtful" designation certainly makes that scenario less likely.

"If I feel like he can get out there and function then I'd go that direction," Reid said. "If I don't, we're not putting him at risk. I'm not going to do that.

"We'll just see how it goes here. Today's important, the rest of today is important, and then tomorrow. We'll just see how it goes."

McNabb injured his right thumb at some point late in the first quarter against Miami and then exited the game after he sprained his ankle in the second quarter. The swelling has come down in both, Reid said. Still ...

"He'd love to play. You just got to make sure that he's okay," Reid said. "I'm not going to put him out there with swollen ankles and swollen thumbs. I'm not going to do that."

Meanwhile, Feeley, who engineered a pair of touchdown-producing drives in the second half against the Dolphins, is in position for his first start since Dec. 26, 2004, a win over the Browns when he was with the Dolphins. In fact, Feeley defeated the Patriots on a prime-time stage in Miami a week before the Cleveland game.

It was a Monday night in December - Dec. 20, 2004, to be exact – and the Dolphins staged a stunning comeback and dealt New England its second loss of the season. Miami scored two touchdowns in the final 2:07 to beat the Patriots 29-28. Feeley threw for the game-winning score, a 21-yard pass to Derrius Thompson, on fourth-and-10 with 1:23 left.

"The win over New England was one of my memorable moments there," Feeley said.

Feeley completed 13 of 19 passes for 116 yards in his first action of the season last weekend. Those numbers included a touchdown pass to Jason Avant as well as an interception.

With a full week of practice under his belt, Reid believes Feeley is ready if called upon.

"He's done a nice job of absorbing the offensive plan for this week," Reid said. "He's got good control of the huddle. He's got a good feel of things."

Mikell, Thomas Among Other Question Marks

William Thomas missed a second day of practice due to an illness the lef tackle has been battling this week. He was limited in Thursday's workout and is listed as questionable for Sunday night.

"He should be ready to go the closer we get to game time," Reid said. "We'll see how it goes."

On defense, strong safety Quintin Mikell missed a third consecutive workout and is listed as doubtful for the game. If Mikell can't play, J.R. Reed would get the start.

Doubtful does not equal OUT....would be no reason for Reid to give it up now that there is 100% no chance McNabb will play

Don't blame me that the guy after me posted an article from yesterday. HE IS OUT!

zooty is a big homer and you didnt have a link but my main point was that Doubtful doesnt equal Out...and I still stand by what i said that I dont see what reid has to gain by announcing this today

and this is the direct link to the story: http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/news/Sto...?STORY_ID=14542

and fwiw the link Zooty posted now goes to the correct story...my guess is that you didnt post a link because the story wasnt on the website yet...more then likely it came across Rotoworld or something and the link wasnt posted yet...but then again I dont know where you got the info but when zooty linked his article(his post hasnt been edited) it went to what he quoted but now goes to the new article

edit: the current article shows it was updated at 11:37 fwiw

Sorry for the confusion. The official out post came 15 minutes after I posted the doubtful report. :D

Either way I doubt anyone was counting on McNabb this week.

i agree but i still dont understand why Reid would rule him OUT a day early....IMO, leave as much doubt as you can for NE
