Here's a look at some early lines I found for this weekend's conference championship games. Should make for another interesting Saturday of college football.

ACC Championship (Noon CST)

Virginia Tech -4

Boston College

SEC Championship (3pm. CST)

LSU -7 1/2

Tennessee

Big 12 Championship (7pm CST)

Oklahoma -3

Missouri

By the way West Virginia is a 27 point favorite at home. :D

I like my Vols plus a TD a whole lot. LSU seemed to be backing into the NC game despite the fact that their D had gotten worse and worse each week and their offense was random. Now they're a team who's lost their shot at the big game and is about to lose their HC. Tenn isn't setting the world on fire either, mind you, but I like their chances. If there's an SEC coach that Fulmer can still out wit, it's your boy Miles. Did you catch his latest? Freaking out and calling time-out right away after 3rd down near the end of regulation?

Way to keep your head Les.

How can OU be favored in that game? #9 vs. #1 on neutral territory...doesn't make any sense.

For the same reason that the Heisman Trophy winner isn't always picked #1 in the draft.

If you think the line is silly, you should lay money on MU.

Because the odds makers know that OU fans are idiots, and they don't set the line based upon how they think the game is going to turn out, but on how the money is going to come in. Add to that the only reason OU is #9 instead of #2 is because in the TT game their QB got knocked silly and their best RB dislocated his knee cap. Their QB's cobwebs have cleared, and they are still a very good team.

Edit to add: I now feel dirty having defended OU's loss against the Red Raiders.

No one should question the timing of Coach Miles timeouts. No excuse. That's coaching 101. However we can question our coaches decision not to blitz on 4th and 10 in OT. Worse case scenerio Arkansas hits a big play for a TD and we go to another OT. :D

Tennessee plus the points does look attractive. Emotionally the Vols should have a huge advantage coming off a win. In regard to our head coach leaving no news there since Miles refuses to discuss it. However it's been reported that Nebraska flew into Baton Rouge Sunday to interview Bo Pelini our DC for the Nebraska job. Hard to imagine why Coach Miles would grant this interview the week leading up to the SEC championship game. But you and I can easily figure if Bo is spending Sunday interviewing for a new job he sure can't have his mind on how to stop Tennessee. :D

I would never bet against OU. It's against my religion. I don't think the line is silly at all...it just doesn't make sense. That is unless most still feel OU is a top 3 team.

I'd rather bet on how many boogers Chase Daniels will eat:

Missouri is very capable of beating OU, especially if Murray is out, but I think OU gets it done.

My point is simply that rankings by design don't reward the "best" teams, rather the "most deserving" teams. UM "deserves" to be ranked over OU by virtue of having lost one less game but that doesn't mean they're a "better" team. Vegas is not required to be dogmatic about where teams are ranked when it sets the line. Well, there's that and the fact that the line has more to do with getting even money for both sides than it does in predicting a winner. I can assure you that if OU was a dog in this game, the money would fly to that side of the bet and the line would shift back the other way in a heartbeat.

You're right. My post was more rhetorical. I just don't recall a time where a BCS and AP #1 has been a dog to a #9.

Regardless, this should be a fun game.

Updated odds for this weekend's big conference championship games. No big movements from the opening lines. Keep an eye on that LSU game. Supposely LSU starting QB hasn't practiced yet this week. :D

Virginia Tech -4 1/2 over Boston College

LSU -7 1/2 over Tennessee

Oklahoma -3 over Missouri

Other game of BCS interest West Virginia -28 over Pittsburgh

The odds makers could give a crap who is "best". They are in it to make money, bottom line.

true to a point- more along the lines of getting action on both sides.

Still, alot of info to be gained by where Vegas sets the odds on games, and IMO it is just a perfect example of how screwy this whole thing is when the #1 team in the country is a 3 point underdog on a neutral field.

hopefully somehow this season will somehow get us closer to a playoff
