Undeafed Season Question

Patriots

Assuming that NE does not go undeafted. (I thought the Colts would do it two years ago). Do you think that it is just an impossible feat to accomplish. I think there are just too many things that have to go right. Its really a lot of luck involved.

I will admit, last night brought me back down to earth.

I think it is possible, but not very probable. For one, there are more games in a season than there was in 72'. Two, with free agency, salary cap, and expansion, the talent pool has been thinned our or redistributed. You just can't build a team of dominant players like you used to.

I don't think it is impossible at all. I think it could even be done by a good but not great team, depending upon schedule, injuries, and a couple of lucky calls/ball bounces in the right direction.

I think that clearly the Patriots have one of the best shots to do this... not only because of their talent but mostly because BB wants to stick it to the league this year (which means he will probably still be going for it late in the season after they already have home field advantage wrapped up).

There are 2 ways of looking at an undefeated season. They could go 16-0 which would be an undefeated regular season. But they would then still need to win 3 more games and get to 19-0 or the first 16 wins won't matter anyway.

I see 3 decent chances that the Pats might lose at least 1 time before the Regular Season ends.

The last 5 games of the season look to include 3 lay down teams, Baltimore, the Jets & Miami. But there are also 2 teams in the last 5 games that are going to be fighting for their playoff lives, the Giants & Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is the next big test but not until after the Pats play Baltimore, in Baltimore. So with the 4-7 Ravens up next might the Pats be looking past them to the Steelers? That could make this weeks game against the Ravens a trap game. That is chance #1.

Chance #2 is playing Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh plays tough football and they are good enough to win on any given Sunday, if they get the breaks.

Chance #3 is Week 17. They are playing the Giants and the Giants will more than likely need a win to make the playoffs and by then the Pats will have wrapped up Home Field throughout, the starters may only get a short outing that week.

Personally I think it is Pittsburgh that will beat them.

I also do not think they will advance to the SuperBowl unless they start balancing things better between the pass & the run. This last week against Philly they only ran the ball 16 times as a team while throwing 54 passes. That's a lot like the old "Air" Coryell Chargers and that will NOT get it done in the playoffs.

Just my opinion, but even after last night's game, I still believe that at the end of the season The Pats will be 16-0, and they are still the best team I have ever seen.

But I do have a question.... Why did they keep Maroney out most of the game??? There run game has been average most of the season, but last night they didn't even bother til the end.

They were going with the no huddle, 4 wide out option, and Maroney didnt fit into that scheme.....Faulk is much better receiver, thus he was in for most of first half.....When that struggled a bit, I believe they tried to catch Philly off guard a few tims with running plays....a la Maroney.......Was LOVING Maroney on the bench first half as was playing against him...then he gets the Rushing td....the bastard!! Well, he could have had 2, as Evans grabbed first one

If this year's Pats team (the best I've seen in 25+ years of watching the NFL) can't do it, I don't foresee anybody else doing it under the current system. In addition to the extra two games that the '72 Dolphins didn't have to play, free agency, the salary cap, and talent dilution due to expansion have made it INCREDIBLY difficult to accomplish.
