Who could you get for LT that would make the overall team better? Trake LT in a 3-team deal for APete and TBrady? That would work from SD's perspective ... but maybe not so much from their trading partners. :D What else might be out there that would merit giving up the franchise?

SD should just be happy they ducked Eli MICHEAL VICK, admit their hubris with their recent coaching change, and bring Marty and the 14-2 world back to southern cali ...

There. Fixed. :D

... If Norv can't pull them out of this slide this season or next, you are looking at Norv being gone, and Smith being gone right along with him. At that point, you clean house, and the new GM just might want to start fresh--depending on what LT2 contract situation is (I have no idea).

I have been very hard on Norv this year as well. But I read an article :D here that made a lot of sense. I think they are pulling out of "the slide", if they were ever really in one.

Sure, they have slid from 14-2, but when you look at who they played last year as compared to this year, there is a very interesting picture. Compare their opponents' combined winning percentage of .535 this year to .434 last season. They rolled some pretty bad teams last year. Just the level of competition they have played this year is going to make them look "not as good". The team has some issues they are still working out, but I am not nearly as doom-and-gloom as I was as the season has played out.

Facing the league's 21st-ranked rushing defense last week, the Chargers ran for 191 yards. That's how it was last year, too, when they played just five of the top 16 rushing defenses and ran wild against Nos. 25 (twice), 28, 29, 30 and 31.

Another thing that has happened to the Chargers is that they lost some games that at that point in time, everyone thought they should have rolled.

An example is the Chargers going into Green Bay. At the time, who would have guessed that the Pack was going to be as strong as they have been this year? Looking back, they have lost on the road to the Pack, the Patriots, Jags and Vikings, and in retrospect, losing to any of those teams in their crib is not unexpected. The only game they "should have" won was the Vikes, but even they are a surging team that could make the playoffs while adding that Castillo, Williams hurting, Phillips and Jammer, all pro bowl caliber and from the same side of the D, got rolled by AP. The only game they were really out of was the Patriots, but shut them down pretty well in the second half. A great team against that schedule would be happy with a split. The Chargers were not playing like a great team, but are improving. They were in both the JAX and GB game 'till the very end and a play here or there could have had different outcomes.

As it stands, they are 5-1 at home (losing to KC, and the way they did it, at home added to the furor) and 2-4 on the road. They are at the Titans this week, a winning team and on the road and playing for their playoff lives! A victory here could be the last piece that gets this team back on the right track.

Norv has incorporated a much more verticle attack this year in the passing game and it has taken some adjusting. The players and coaches appear to be more comfortable with each other with every passing week. The "seemless transition" wasn't so seemless after all! Rivers has had his problems, but he has been asked to do a lot more in getting the ball downfield. As a second year starter and though the "same terminology" a different approach to the way the offense is run and what Turner expects from it has had Rivers on his heals at times. He looked good for a couple weeks, smoking the Ravens two weeks ago and then coolig off last week in KC (which is NEVER an easy place to play). The team could be starting to peak at the right time. A sweep of their last four games would make them 11-5. Not 14-2, but respectable after playing the third toughest schedule in the NFL at this point! (@ Tenn, DET, DEN, @Oak...all winnable).

The Titans pose a top ranked rushing D, and it will be interesting to see if the Chargers can crack it and if Rivers can open things up with his arm on the road. It will be a huge test for this team to see if they are good enough to make noise in the playoffs, or just be an early round pretender. Getting their pro-bowl center back has made a HUGE difference and the Chargers D is playing much better (though I would still rather see more preassure early in the game when they are still close. Cotrell seems to be too worried about making a mistake rather than forcing the big play. When the Chargers rush 5, they have the best balance in their pass D.

The expectations, based on last year were probably a little overblown, INDEPENDENT of the head coach, considering the level of competition they have faced this year. This season, assuming they continue to improve on into the playoffs, will prepare them much better for the level of competition they will face in the tournament as compared to last year. The one thing that you could clearly see was that the Chargers were not mentally prepared to play the Patriots in that horrible first round loss. Hopefully, things will be a little different this year. :D

Couldn't have asked for a better game (not better performance). Overcome adversity, on the road against a tough team.

:D

Sure, I'll use the cliche, character builder, but they need some of these going into the playoffs to prove to themselves they can do it!

why dont they use turner more?

1. No need. He's only insurance.

2. Keeps his perceived value high. If he plays poorly, it hurts both him and the team.

3. Keeps him healthy.

4. He being healthy means a better free agent contract in the off-season. Which, in turn, means a better consolation pick (probably 3rd round) in 2009.

Win-Win situation for both parties.

Why trade him. Keep LT and Burner will eventually replace him. When Turner does some peaches by the bucketty scouting team...like the Dolphins will pick up L.T for an enormous contract based on name alone.

AAAHAHAHA love the editing by the huddle ^ " peaches by the bucketty scouting team"
