Troy Smith

Anyone know how Troy Smith has looked in practice? Any chance he actually gets playing time as a starter this year? Is Boller their guy no matter what?

Boller hasn't done anything to warrant being benched. Aside from the 1 int he played very well vs the Pats. I've been waiting myself to see what Smith can do on the NFL field, but I think we'll have to wait till next year to find out.

I figured as much. I just was hoping they know Boller isnt the long term answer they hoped hed be. At some point they will need to do something to improve at QB.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!

Boller is not capable of leading any team. He fumbles the ball, turns it over and rarely makes very good throws. He's had some bright spots (NE game last week and a few games last year), but most of his stats are garbage time. He consistenly displays poor judgement. He's like a deer in headlights and throws the ball like its a shot put.

I see Smith getting some game time in Miami in two weeks.

They know he's not the long term answer, but neither is getting another veteran to plug in (ala McNair, McNabb or anyone else). I think Boller sticks around for another year so that a young guy, like maybe Troy, can develop. I think the Ravens realize that the screwed up Boller's psychee by starting him right away. After all, when has a rookie been tabbed a started and been able to lead an offense (other than Peyton). They wouldn't plug in Troy now against teams like the Pats and Colts, but like I say above, think he'll get some PT against MIA.

But Troy is a rookie, so isnt that kind of the same? AAnd Marino was another QB that was a good rookie.

They gave the job to Boller for a reason. As long as he continues to play like he did against New England he's not budging. Believe me, I'd love to see Smith get out on the field. It's just not going to happen unless Boller gives them a good reason.

And that reason was because McNair was totally incapable of holding onto the ball or passing it over 20 yards.

Agreed, it won't last longer than a week.

The difference now is that Boller knows that this is his LAST chance with the Ravens. Before this season, they extended him one year, so after next season, he is a UFA. There is ZERO chance that the Ravens do not draft/sign a 'QB of the future' type guy in the offseason. Either Boller finally gets it and starts playing like a starter, or he just keeps the spot warm and signs as a backup with a chance to start when he is done with the Ravens.

As for Troy Smith, I think they should have cut him in camp. Drew Olson was the better #3 QB, but they didn't draft him and give him a bonus, so he was the one who got whacked. As good as the Ravens have been at drafting, QB evaluation has been a glaring weakness. Not only did we cut Derrick Anderson in favor of a 2nd kicker, the whole debate over which QB to draft a few years ago was between Boller and Leftwich. Ick.

Has this (the game versus Indy) been reason enough?

Yeah, I know it was only pre-season but Smith completed like 14% of his passes. I don't think he is going to last long when given a chance. Hearing some of the things that have been surfacing about Smith it looks like old polished turd saying. I can't get over the one about him trying to bang Gonzo's girlfriend two weeks before the title game and tearing the team apart. Looked like the kid was buying into what Tressel was selling, but guess not. Too bad.
