Lighten up NFL

The NFL got the whole Terrence Newman/John Kitna thing all wrong. The commissioner and his henchmen need to chill. The whole thing was playful. Newman admitted that and he even noted that he has only blitzed 4 times this year and that Kitna outsized him considerably. Players like to talk smack to get motivated. It is usually playful. FANS love it and it gets everyone ready and looking forward to the weekend's match-ups. The Commissioner and his "Fine Crew" need to chill with the fans and enjoy the league.

But Scooby...you don't understand. This is a BUSINESS. The NFL is a PRODUCT that must be carefully MARKETED in order to expand it's DEMOGRAPHICS. We can't have something as ugly as football getting in the way of that. Otherwise, we're going to go back to the Stone Age when the Super Bowl was just a football game instead of World Premiere Night for the best new commercials that advertising agencies worldwide have to offer. Is that what you want?!?

Personally, I think the NFL should take a cue from the WWE and just script the games out ahead of time. That way, nothing bad, unsportsmanlike, or politically incorrect will ever happen. I mean, c'mon...if the Ravens/Patriots game had been properly scripted, would Bart Scott have had any reason to throw the referee's flag into the stands? Of course, not. He would have known all along that his team was going to lose, so he would have had no reason to be upset and we would have had a nice clean game without all of those ugly emotions getting in the way.

(No, I don't condone premeditated (or even spontaneous) illegal hits that are made with the intention of injuring a player. I just think the NFL goes to ridiculous extremes to market itself and image and I sometimes get nostalgic for the days when the only entertainment in a football game came from the players themselves..)
