Play-off tie breakers

In my local, we've always picked all the games of the week vs the spread which I thought was lame because it has nothing to do with FF.

I've tossed out the following and would be curious of your thoughts.

Our league is pretty basic scoring 1 for 10, 1 for 25, TDs, etc.

We don't do fractional scoring so 89 or 82 both equal 8 pts.

My suggestion for the first level of tie breaker is to figure in the fractional points.

Second level would be to have people start their next 4 best players. To make it even from position to position (QBs have the highest scores in our league), I took the average total points from the top 8 QBs and TEs and top 16 RBs, and WRs (8 team league) and weighted the positions accordingly.

Thus, your back-ups would be handicapped to reflect how well they do compared to the average.

Sort of complicated, but it wouldn't take that long to figure out and obviously we only need to do so in the unlikely event of a tie.

We use combined bench points..If that is tied we go to individual high on the bench until it breaks

The entire bench? Do you guys all have the same number at each position on the bench? What if one guy has two extra QBs and one guy has an extra WR instead?

We dont have roster limits..We have an equal amount of bench players but the positions may vary.. and yes its the entire bench

We actually have a "tiebreaker" position in our starting lineup - can put anyone there (usually best bet is your backup QB).

If the tiebreakers tie (has happened once in 12 years), in the regular season it's a tie. In the playoffs, we start at the top of the roster (QB, RB1, WR1, RB2, WR2...) and compare

If all the monkeys in teh world typing on all the typewriters in the world end up with a tie that is tied at every single spot, I (commish) flip a coin

Why would it not be like the pros?

i.e head-to-head during the regular season, then conference record, etc.

Why on earth would the success or fate of a playoff game be determined by who has the best back-up kicker??? Wouldn't the better indicator of who has the better team be the success of that team during the regular season?

I hate using players that an owner did NOT start to break ties.

So what we do in my local (which has fractional scoring)

1) The team that has the highest scoring QB, RB, WR, TE, DF gets 1 point for each added to their score. The team with the most points after this tie-breaker wins.

2) If they are still tied ... the team whose kicker scored the least amount of points wins the tie.

3) If they are still tied ... the team that scored the most actual TDs wins

How about just stating that the higher seeded playoff team wins in the event of tie? What could be simpler than that?

I've seen where the NFL does the

:D

PS. Don't miss out on the bonus video of Keith after. Who threw the bottle. :D

We do a 'tiebreaker reserve squad" that consists of a QB, RB and WR you choose from your bench that it gets kicked to in the event of a tie amongst starters. They're chosen and it's much more fair than just a general 'go to the bench' move because teams would just stuff their benches with untaken QBs to the max.

All my leagues require submitting single players in order of preference. I'm in 4 leagues and all but one have converted to decimal scoring, 25 yds= 2.5 pts and virtually eliminates ties. Of course the rules were changed because a tie in last years semi's that wound up costing me a SuperBowl. Many will argue that the decimal scoring looks stupid but so does scoring 100+ points anyway.
