Bronco Homers

Any bronco homer know why s young got more carries than henry against the chiefs? As I understood it, Henry was healthy. As I understand it, skeletor typically goes primarily with one back. Against the chiefs, young got 17 carries, and henry got 10--why was that? Is this ratio likely to continue next week?

Shanahan obviously believes that Young is the more talented of the two. If the guys were on an even level, he would have gone with the vet & used the rook as relief.

That said, if Henry gets hot vs HOU, expect him to get more work. But I think the pecking order has been established after all these weeks of trial and Young has been annoited the #1 RB in DEN.

Bumping for more opinions as tomorrow night is obviously the night.

Looks as though Houston has given up 13 rushing TDs to backs this year, and actually given up one more at home(in one less game) than on the road . Looks like most teams with a solid running game have had success scoring via the ground(especially lately(5 TDs in the last 3 games)) and it appears HOU has given up five 100yd games to primary rushers. Certainly appears as though there should be some points to be had...

I pretty much concur with DMD's assessment of the situation(Young = yards, Henry = TDs), and last week would certainly support that line of thinking. I think both runners are worth starting this week, and I am curious to know what those who have one or both of these backs are planning to do. :D

Two weeks ago, I started both and got mixed results. Henry scored twice, but Young was in and out of the lineup with injuries. Last week, I started Henry only and watched Young run wild. Luckily, Henry salvaged his day with the one short TD. I am giving some thought to starting them both this week, although I realize that could be setting myself up for disaster if Houston's D comes up hugh or Denver is forced to throw a lot or Shanny gets the inkling to see what Cecil Sapp can do with 12 carries, etc. Not ideal, but I dont really have many more promissing options at this point. So, again, I am curious to know which one you're leaning on(if either) and if there is anyone else contemplating rolling with both of them. :D

Right now I am starting Young over Henry. Gotta hope he busts a long run.

This situation has me :D as well. Although my other choices are great (Rudi, F.Taylor, KJones, AP) I can't take the risk that one of the Denver backs gets spot duty while someone on my bench has a decent day. While I do admitt that I'm taking a risk with Young I started Henry last week and like others was save by the TD.

I just hope I'm right.....

I have Young in two leagues and I just can't bring myself to risk starting him

This is wise! IMO in reading the comments from Shannarat he states he's happy to have his 3 healthy backs into the lineup. I think he continues to use them the way he did last week, except I'd bet it's even more of an even split this week. Now for all we know both backs could produce like AD and Taylor did for MINN a couple weeks ago, but I wouldn't be putting my playoff life at risk on that if it were my decision. Remember, Shannarat stated that Henry is being "worked" back into football shape. I'll agree with what BB said and that if Travis gets on a roll running the ball in the game with his carries that may even further make the split sway in his direction. We can pretty much guarantee they will both get at leasst 10 carries, now I'm willing to risk what AD does with his 10 carries......Young however....not so much.

I'm not so sure that Henry is the goal line back. Didn't Young pull himself out of the series in which Henry scored the touchdown?

That being said...I REALLY want to start Young tonight, but I have been bitten by Shenanigans in the past (just last week) and will start Lendale White/Rudi Johnson instead.

Good luck to you with bigger nuts than me!!!

Unfortunately I don't think I have a choice...Grant, Henry, Young, Edge and Fred Jax and I need 2. Grant is 1 but I think Young is the best of the rest. He'll at least match Edge :D . I'm rolling the dice though and I play against Moss and TO, but I have Romo so that should neutralize TO somewhat.

From the Denver Post -

Rookie Young Expects Big Game

Good quick article, do head coaches, ie Sha na na, think about that at all though? Does it even enter his mind, "this kid is playing in his hometown for the 1st time and has 50+ family and friends coming, lets feed him so he can show off a bit." Not sure it does....

ETA: Not only did he pull himself at the GL, the only reason henry had more than 5 carries is because they pulled Young before the fourth with 156 yards and a monster lead.

I dont know that Shannihan would actually stop and think about this being a game in Young's home town. But, I think a good coach will have his finger on the pulse of his players and I would think Young may have had an extra bounce to his step this week coming off his career game and staring at perhaps a start in his home town. That is the kind of thing I think Shanny would notice and may influence his decision. That said, they didnt sign Henry to a big contract to have him be a back up. Now, if he's working his way back from injury(which is the case) then I can see Shanny riding with the rook as it takes the pressure off Henry and may give them their best player on the field anyway.

To me, I would think it unwise to play Henry at all if he's not very close to 100%. And if they are going to play him, I feel they are kinda obligated to give him some meaningful carries as otherwise it doesnt seem to make sense to even have him in the game. So that is why I am thinking a game similar to last week might be in the cards again for tonight. Let Young run wild all over the field and then use TH if/when they get down by the stripe. That is why I am thinking about using them both, but (like I said before) I realize that is highly risky at this point.

Dang...2 hours to kickoff and I am still torn between using Young or Kevin Curtis as my flex player... :D

I keep on swapping the two in my lineup. Head says Curtis is safer but heart really wants to play this kid...

Edit to add...Young back in. :D

I have Grant, FWP, Young and Henry and currently starting FWP and Grant. Can't see starting a guy like Young who will split time and if his yardage is down due to various game factors, there's not much coming out of that. I flat out don't trust Henry at all at this point. FWP has been a fantasy disappointment due to the lack of td's but by process of elimination and factoring in the guys who will get the most touches, i'm going with Grant and FWP. Here's hoping it's the right choice :D

I can't decide b/w Young or Rudi  Right now, I have Rudi in...help :D

I'm starting both

Starting Grant over Young and Parker to pair with Addai. I don't trust Shanan-agains, and also worry about the short week.

Wish I had those problems....

If you people haven't learned to avoid DEN RBs by now - then you deserve to be tortured by all of the Shanahanigans :D

It's either Young/Henry or Fred Taylor or KJones with horrible matchups

I have Grant, FWP, Young and Henry and currently starting FWP and Grant. :D

I think that's the only play......

Good Luck to everybody!!!

KJones has a pretty solid match-up...forgiving SD rush defense that will be missing Merriman? Or did you forget what AD did to them on th ground???

Here's hoping you left Young on the bench.

:D Nope......but I had to chance it. I'm playing ADP and Addai

I've been burned more this year by KJones than by Henry/Young......every time I started him he stunk and then would blow up on my bench.....such is life in FFBALL, no one to blame but myself. :D

Had he or Fred Taylor had better match-ups it would be different.

Kind of shocked to see the Texans handle the Broncos so easily though.

You shouldn't be if you've watched them at all this year. They're 2 plays away from being a 4 win team. The D and special teams are among the worst in the NFL. Hard to believe that guys who get paid so much to play footbal either don't know how to or don't have the internal fortitude to tackle.

Any defense that makes Ron Dayne look good ... is a BAD defense
