godtomsatan
This isn't to debate how good the Patriots are and lauding what is clearly the most dominant single season of football at the very least since 1999. Rather, watching the matchup last night between the Saints and the Falcons got me thinking how flat out awful so many teams are this year. There are 8 teams that are just plain not competitive with the rest of the NFL due to deficiencies on one or both sides of the football. I can think of another 8 that are just plain not good football teams, but win due to the fact that they are less crappy than their competition. Discuss. WaterMan
Did you watch how the Falcons were better under Vick? Could it be the NFL was more....exciting with him? Edited December 11, 2007 by WaterMan
Savage Beatings
Inordinate number of injuries this year, means a lot more 2nd string players on the field, means less talent in the weekly competitions, means less fan interest, etc. At least that's my theory. isleseeya
Cowboys could end up 15-1 , packers and Colts each 14-2 and Mighty pats may end up undefeated Dolphins may end up winless Browns may make playoffs Brady will break record for most passing TD 's and Pats will probably break a bunch of offensive records as well This is a very interesting and very good NFL season imho with alot of things still to happen

Donutrun Jellies
Funny, I was thinking just the opposite -- that it might be one of the most entertaining: Steelers are leading their division; Mrs. Jellies' Pats are even better; Got an unbeaten story line going; Got a winless story line going; Wildcards still up in the air with two weeks to go; Some great players not producing (SSmith, for example); Some nobodies coming up big (RGrant, for example); Got some injuries to stir it up (Deuce, Reggie, Ronnie, JDelo, etc); Michael Vick gets jail time for felonies; Got to see Indy/NE and Dallas/GB; Loved the 3-0 fiasco at Heinz; Brett Favre has been reincarnated as Brett Favre; All four Donutrun redraft teams have made their leagues' semifinals ... Yep, dang good year.
Savage Beatings
Is Harrington the mill street walker? You make me sad. Are you really this unintelligent? Somebody please tell me that this ongoing spiel is some kind of prolonged tortuous gag. I want in on the joke. Anyone? Hello?
xMRogers
Its funny - when the league is all parity, and 25 teams are 7-9 to 9-7, we complain "where's all the good teams" Then, when you got your 16-0/ 15-1/14-2....plus the opposite ends, we complain "man, some of these teams suck" Can't have 10 great, 20 above average and 2 bad teams. If you have 4 or 5 great teams, we have 4 or 5 terrible ones too - just how it works out. In saying that, the Falcons are terrible, and they are probably better than Miami, San Fran and I'd even say the Jets.... with all that, outside of the Eagles failings, been an entertaining year for me.... Randall
Did you watch how the Falcons were better under Vick? Could it be the NFL was more....exciting with him? Exciting? Prison life is more exciting for him now too. Perhaps you could visit him there. They like it when visitors try smuggling in saw blades and lock picks. xMRogers
not to make this a vick thread, but the stat they put up last night was a interesting - in 59 games with Vick, Falcs were 38-21-1....without Vick, lost 21 game...out of 27 (6-21) going into last night Not saying Vick was a 'good' QB, but that sort of disparity can't just be tossed aside when debating how good he is Heck, on the radio this morning, they were talkign about this and the one guy was saying "he's not an efficient QB" ... the other guy said "so"...and they then both agreed that the Falcons were much better with him than without. Also pointed out that if Chris Redman gets called out of the insurance office to play int eh NFL, and Vinny Test gets called in...Michael Vick will be called in to play in 2010 if not sooner
godtomsatan
with all that, outside of the Eagles failings, been an entertaining year for me.... I definitely did not say it's not ultimately entertaining, just that there are a lot of bad football teams this year, or at least more so than in recent memory. Ursa Majoris
I definitely did not say it's not ultimately entertaining, just that there are a lot of bad football teams this year, or at least more so than in recent memory. For a Bears fan just eleven months removed from the SB, this season has been neither entertaining nor interesting. More like the fascination from watching a train wreck. As a football fan it's been OK.
jjpro11
as much as i despise the pats, it is pretty intriguing that there could be the a 16-0 team and 0-16 team, both in the same season. the odds of that are next to zero.
Crazysight
They had twice as many wins as loses, but Vick sucked. While Harrington and Leftwich have three times are many loses as wins. Yeah well so Vick ran fast and could beat some average to lesser teams on that alone. So what? The only important thing is that he wasn't smart enough to realize that he couldn't outrun the law. gilwiggum
Could it be not the teams, but the coaching that is worse? Mangini going for the field goal last week The uneven play of the Chargers and Saints Miami falling of the face of the earth, weren't they a trendy Super Bowl pick? St Louis and San Fran not meeting expectations. It seems like the Saints, 49ers, Chargers and Rams are very similar teams to last year and in some cases better, yet they are way worse. godtomsatan
Of course it is. If not, why write this as it has no relevence to the rest of your thesis? There are a lot of threads out there about the Patriots and how great they have been this season, and how historic their performance is. Very few discussing how awful a broad range of teams are. Pitbull739
Ever hear the saying that pizza is a lot like sex? Even bad pizza is not so bad?
