Rockerbraves
Bobby Petrino will resign his position as coach of the Atlanta Falcons and is close to an agreement to become the new coach at the University of Arkansas, multiple sources tell ESPN. According to sources, Petrino and his agent have been talking with the Falcons about his preference to return to the college ranks. The former Louisville coach was looking for an opportunity to break into the Southeastern Conference ranks, and Arkansas was a natural fit. There is no deal yet between Petrino and Arkansas, but once there is, Petrino is expected to be paid around $3 million a year, sources said. Petrino signed a five-year, $24 million contract to be the Falcons head coach, so he will be taking a pay cut to re-enter the college ranks. The Falcons are 3-10 and have had their season torn apart by Michael Vick's involvement in a dogfighting ring and subsequent 23-month jail sentence, which was levied Monday. Petrino will succeed Houston Nutt, who was hired by Mississippi immediately after resigning at Arkansas. Tommy Tuberville and Tommy Bowden were both linked to the Arkansas opening, but they remained as coaches at Auburn and Clemson, respectively. Arkansas flirted with hiring Jim Grobe -- a private fundraising arm for the Razorbacks approved a salary supplement for the Wake Forest coach -- but Grobe stayed with the Demon Deacons. Information from ESPN.com senior NFL writer John Clayton was used in this report. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3150783

GWPFFL BrianW
A new coach for the Arkansas idiots to consistantly try to run out of town, and then after a big win off him an extesnsion. It always amazes me how those things work out. Similar situation at Auburn. They couldn't wait to get rid of TT, when they thought they could land Bobby, and then he leads them to an undefeated season, and all is forgotten. You have to admit it looks like a great hire for the Hogs. That's coming from a divisional rival fan.
Sgt. Ryan
You have to admit it looks like a great hire for the Hogs. That's coming from a divisional rival fan. especially when you dont have Sabans kids anymore. You and then when I wore my first dressers better hope you win the mythical NC this yr, as you may not be competitive the rest of Les Miles stint there. Rockerbraves
Should be interesting to see if Petrino handles the backlash better than Saban. This Sexton guy is something else. Ex-player Jackson: 'Petrino is a coward' "Not to address your team, that's real bad," Jackson said. "That's the coward way out. That's like saying you're a coward, you're not man enough to stand up in front of your players or your organization and say you're fixing to go somewhere else. Not to finish the season out, that means he's a quitter, right? He's a quitter. http://www.nbcsports.com/portal/site/nbcsp...00075c1d240RCRD Looks like Petrino's new boss at Arkansas doesn't trust him all that much either. While Arkansas is euphoric, the mood is far different in Atlanta, where several Falcons players -- including former Razorbacks defensive end Jamaal Anderson -- ripped their former coach for his departure. Petrino's short stint in the NFL did little to dispel the notion that he's quick to switch jobs. From his very first year at Louisville, his name kept coming up for other positions. Petrino's five-year contract with Arkansas pays him $2.85 million per year and includes a $2.85 million buyout if he leaves to take a college or pro job during the first four years. It also includes an agreement that Petrino not leave to accept a job with another SEC West school. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;_ylt=Al...p&type=lgns Edited December 13, 2007 by Rockerbraves
millerx
Think it will hurt recruiting?? ESPN College Football Live is reporting Arkansas has a de-commitment from CB Ugo Okpara. His comment: "The problem with Arkansas was the reputation of coach Bobby Petrino leaving during the season. And not staying there and his name not being highly thought of like when he was at Louisville. I didn't want to play ball for a coach that had a reputation like that. That kind of drove me away from Arkansas."
Rockerbraves
Think it will hurt recruiting?? Surprisingly it doesn't seem to be hurting Saban very much. Last time I checked Alabama is putting together a top 5 recruiting class.
