Who's the biggest scumbag?

Saban. The writing was on the wall for Petrino, and his players quit on him long before he quit on them. Not justifying it, and he is a scumbag, but as far as the biggest scumbag? Anyone who says its "not my fault" in a team environment, when you're the leader, is a dirtbag. Add that to everything else, and Nick Saban is by far the biggest a$$hole in the country.

Might need to throw Coach Tressel's name in the scumbag category. Let's don't forget Tressel coach Maurice Clarett at Ohio State and was also the coach at Youngstown State when they had their problems. :D

Ultimately, no NCAA violations were found in either of the above situations. As for the Dellimuti-related violations, Ohio State avoided the potential penalty of game forfeitures from the national title season by arguing that school officials were unaware of those gifts back then. People with ties to Clarett, though, find that contention hard to swallow.

"C'mon," Myke Clarett said. "Tressel is acting like Sergeant Schultz."

Tressel's former Youngstown State players have seen this scenario play out before. At the time, some players wondered about the cars that Isaac was driving around town. But Tressel, if he did notice red flags, never asked questions, to the appreciation of his players.

"What would you do, man?" said Shawn Patton, a teammate of Isaac in 1990 and the leading rusher on the 1994 national champions at Youngstown. "Do you turn your head when some kid gets some money he's not supposed to? Or do you (pursue the truth and) see your whole program go down?" Patton, a warehouse laborer, shook his head so gently his dreadlocks barely moved. "The NCAA? It's just the mob. Just a bunch of crooks stealing money from a bunch of kids."

Saban

Petrino

or

Miles (as soon as he loses the NC Game and runs to Michigan)

Some coaches have no ethics and the standards should be higher. Bowden and JoPa have shown loyalty for years, but some of these clowns are making coaching into a mercenary profession.

Is it really these guys who are making coaching a mercenary position? Or could it be the win or die mentality that many fan bases have out there? I certainly applaud, say Jim Grobe of Wake. However, I applaud him at least as much for his common sense as his sense of loyalty.

After all, as long as he continues to compete at Wake, he'll be a god. They'll end up naming the stadium after him, etc. I understand a $1mil raise is huge, but the mil he already makes goes a long way in Winston Salem. He seems to be a man of modest tastes so that's more than enough money to take care of him and his family forever. Well, especially considering the fact that, staying at Wake means he can make that money for as long as he feels like. He bites on the Ark job and fails to make them the program they seem to think they are (which, if they think is a perennial top-tier SEC program is somewhat dillusional), he's canned in a few years and may never find a gig as nice as they one he has.

I know that if somebody offered to double my salary, I would be hard pressed to pass it up. Of course, I don't make so much money that I've reached the point where I can pretty much have everything I want and be sure I've got a nice retirement waiting for me yet. So, for me, I can't be so choosy.

On the other hand, it's hard to blame Rodriguez for accepting a position at what is considered among the finest football schools of all time. It's also hard to blame Saben and Petrino for trying their hand at the top level of coaching and then realizing that they're just not cut out for that type of coaching. Not that any of them should be candidates for man of the year. But scumbag isn't really the word that comes to mind. Perhaps Saben because he said point blank he wasn't going to go. Of course, there's a decent reason for that as well. Either an absolute yes or no is the only way to shut the press up so perhaps he just told them something to make them go away. Not that he doesn't come out looking pretty sketchy for having said that.

Petrino quit on an NFL team. I think what Rich Rodriquez is doing is alot worst than them all.

He is leaving his team and former alma mater before its biggest game ever, to take the Michigan job.

I'm not buying this, he gave them 7 good years and that team is light years better than it was when he got there. He's taking one of the top 5 jobs in the country, I can't blame him. Why can coaches not aspire to better their careers? If Stoops had left this year and RR replaced him, you'd be singing a different tune Sarge.

Petrino is the worst of them all, he conspired behind Tuberville's back to take his job and has flirted with other jobs every year, all the while saying he was committed long term to whatever job he was in at the time. Rodriguez simply took a better job.

And what exactly makes this year's bowl game any bigger than the 06 Sugar Bowl Sarge?

+1 Rich Rodriquez isn't anywhere close to a Saban or Petrino. He did his service, he started this program from scratch and left it far better off then when he hired on. Props to him for taking a dream job.

I love this hire for Big 10 football. Zook and Rodriquez will help bring the Big 10 out of the dark ages with there spread style offenses and help the Big 10 in bowl season tremendously. I would MUCH rather have faced a Les Miles led Michigan team each season, then a Rodriquez lead team...........

Rodriquez quit on his team during the season. They still have one game left, and he left them high and dry. his alma mater at that. That is by far worse than Petrino leaving a NFL team coaching a bunch of millionaires for less than a season. These kids Rich is leaving gave him his word he would be there, this was his home, his alma mater. Now he is bailing on these kids before the season is even over.

per espn

Rodriguez said he wouldn't coach the Mountaineers in the bowl because he didn't want to be a distraction.

Rodriguez said he wouldn't coach the Mountaineers in the bowl because he didn't want to be a distraction.

"The attention should be on the team. But I have not talked to West Virginia University about that," he said.

Rodriguez's $4 million buyout clause in his West Virginia contract still must be worked out. When Michigan lured basketball coach John Beilein away from West Virginia last April, his contract had a $2.5 million buyout clause. Under an agreement with West Virginia, Beilein agreed to pay $1.5 million to the WVU Foundation.

The interim coach won't be offensive coordinator Calvin Magee or secondary coach and recruiting coordinator Tony Gibson. Rodriguez introduced them at his Michigan news conference.

Magee declined comment on his immediate future. Gibson said he has committed to coming to Michigan but hadn't told West Virginia officials as of Monday morning.

"My contract goes through June, but when I get back I'm going to sit with the AD and say I'm going to Michigan when the bowl is over," said Gibson, who planned to fly back to Morgantown later Monday.

Gibson said he wouldn't call any West Virginia recruits who had made verbal commitments.

"We'll start recruiting for the University of Michigan right away," he said.

You think? Leaving your kids after one of the biggest melt down loses ever, when you lost to unranked Pitt. So you just bail on them.

WVA wasnt playing the #3 team in the country in the 06 Orange Bowl, so this is a bigger game.

In that game they beat #10 GA 38-35.

So Id say this is the biggest game thus far for that school, considering its a BCS bowl game against a better higher ranked team.

I don't know, I mean I'm not going to bust any coaches balls for going out and making more money for their services or deciding to leave one enviroment for another.

Let's be fair here, Owners and AD's can fire a coach tomorrow or hire another and buy out his contract, but when a coach up and leaves for greener pastures or JUST BECAUSE he feels like it owners act stunned and offended.

If the Falcons pulled a Dolphins and Parcells or Coward wanted to coach in Atlanta about how long would Petrino be there???

Blank stood up there like a vagina and cried like a baby. Blankl should have said good riddence and guess what???How could they be suprised??? just like how can Arkansa be supriesed when Petrino goes to coach another program.(BUYER BEWARE) Some shmuck hires these guys and you need to look into their past and measure best and worse that can happen.

and with any product there has to be a buyer willing to pay!!!(blame them. Miles should use Michigan to get more Bank!!!! It's called opportunity and you take it when it comes. I wonder how many of us would say no to a higher paying job!!!!..All in the name of loyalty??? or use anothere offer to sweeten your deal...That's smart business not being a scumbag.

note, none of these things will happen if colleges didn't shell out these enormous contracts. Is that going to change? No it won't, so this won't change either. It's a real tough position to be in, because of the recruiting. That's really the only reason why these things happen. You never see assistants in the NFL leave for a new NFL team early because they don't have too get started on that recruiting trek right out of the gate. But if they leave the NFL for college, it's a whole different ball game.
