Sgt. Ryan
Good hire, but The WVA coach should at least coach the Fiesta Bowl. Bailing on his team, as the top man with games still to play is just as bad as what Bobby Petrino did.
Rockerbraves
Here's what one West Virginia fan had to say about RR leaving. Seems to be the early consensus by many of the Mountaineer fans. I think he should just go!!!! If he is gonna talk about it every year before a bowl game don't make our players think you are going and affect the way they play. Just do it and let them move on and get a new coach.. I guess money talks right??? We will be the best-team next year and maybe our guys won't purposily lose the biggest game ever we will win the CHAMPIONSHIP!!!! And to just think Coach Rod was nominated Coach of the Year.... WHAT A JOKE!!! I think that our players is what makes a team. There is no ME in team coach Rod There is a WE. Better get that right when you go to Michigan and get your butts kicked against Ohio State.. Best of Luck to ya And Go NEERS we will win the Bowl Game!!! Rockerbraves
RR to Michigan - Good news bad news. Good news is Coach Miles will remain at LSU. Bad news is that me and my posse won't be able to release our new video. Fly Off for Miles (A Les Miles Love Song)
GWPFFL BrianW
Michigan is a good job for Rich I think. Tail isn't wagging the dog in Ann Arbor like it is in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It should be very interesting to see the new look Wolverines. I'm excited.
Sgt. Ryan
LMAO, it wouldnt matter if Lombardi coached WVA vs OU, he would lose by 3 scores as well.
chiefjay
Like the hire although I don't know a lot about the man. Just heard the presser and love his personality. His teams have had great success recently with a few bad losses. Next year should be interesting. What does he do with Mallett?
Rockerbraves
Next year should be interesting. What does he do with Mallett? Have a few questions myself. How much and who will pay RR's buyout clause? How many of Michigan's assistant coaches will RR retain? Does this mean Michigan will get the buckeye's #1 recruit Terrell Pryor? Rockerbraves
Pryor would be a nice pickup for both RR & Michigan. "Add Michigan to my list," said Pryor early Sunday afternoon. "Rich Rod is headed to Michigan. I just spoke to him earlier this morning and he told me he's gone. I don't know when it will be announced, but it could be as early as today." "He called me this morning and told me before he announced to anyone," said Pryor. "He said he's keeping the same offense that he had at West Virginia because it's all he knows. I love that offense. I told him I was very interested." http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=751822
BS Miscreant
I like it for both Michigan and Rodriguez. Step up for Rich and a little dose of the here and now for the Wolverines. I don't know that it'll be good for the Big East which of course concerns me as a USF fan but it could be good for me as a USF fan. Make sense? I hear talk that T. Bowden said he'd love the WVU job. Certainly has a name with some punch.

I'm sure telling him he will compete(really start as a freshmen could get him to the Big House) for the Qb job next season may help getting a kid like that. Mallet is going to transfer mark my words. Good hire, but being the 3rd choice would make me somewhat nervous as a wolve fan of I was one. I mean what dd the other 2 have that he did not??? that's the question I would be asking. Goopster24
Pyror is not going to Michigan. This is a momentary Pyror is not going to Michigan. This is a momentairy infatuation with Rich Rod. Tressel and Matta have had him since day one. Pyror is friends with all of the the Buckeye recruits and have helped some of them get recruited. He would not bail on them. He also said Oregon and Tennessee were on his list. He would not go to a Michigan program that is just starting to build. Well we know he called Pryor on Saturday so that was done and yes I'm sure he was told he'll compete and have a good chance at the job next year. I agree Mallet may leave but he's a bit more mobile then people give him credit for. Heck isn't Pryor 6-8? Sheesh, I'm sure he's mobile but he surely isn't Pat White mobile. I agree with RR on that 3rd chioce crap, I mean what was the Sweater Vest? 2nd or 3rd choice I believe. I think he was more of a 2nd chioce as I believe they felt RR wouldn't come initially and that they had a better shot at Schiano who in the end I believe is holding out for the PSU job. Who do you all think is the best choice for Michigan. Miles, Schiano, or RR? I think I would rank them RR, Miles, and then Schiano a distant 3rd although he wouldn't have been a bad choice. I feel better now then at this time last year heading into another season with Lloyd that's for sure. Watch the upgrade on the defense next year just on philosophy alone. sacosud
I think you wondered if Tress was OSU 2nd or 3rd choice and Tress was OSU #1 choice followed by Bellotti (Oregon) and Mason. OSU went through a quite a few interviews including Spielman who brought his playbook(from 86) to the interview..LOL I love the guy, but I'm sure he lost the job at that very moment if he was ever really considered. I like RR myself and think it's good choice, some major changes for Michigan in the near future however long overdue. I would not count out Michigan for Pryor and to be honest. I don't see him coming to OSU. Pryor will have to compete with Boeck and then Henton. Don't sell Henton short (no pun intended) he's talented and reminds me a lot of Troy Smith only faster. The fact that he's friend with a bunch of OSU recruits has to be scary for the Bucks, if Pryor goes to Michigan he could also persuade some of his buddies to follow him, which would give Michigan a top 10 class and really hurt the Bucks. Pryor is looking at OSU, Michigan, Penn St. , Oregon, Florida and Pittsburg right now. It would be wise for the Bucks to let this kid know, he has dibs on the starting job for '09 , because that is what Penn St, Oregon and Michigan have done. Rockerbraves
IMO Miles was never a serious candidate for the job a Michigan. If so the Michigan administration would have made Miles an offer he couldn't refuse instead of low balling him. Also do you seriously think any AD worth a crap would be off boating somewhere that he couldn't be reached by a cell phone? Have to think Miles was ticked thus the outburst prior to the SEC Championship game. Who knows maybe one day we'll see our first coaches trade between Michigan and LSU. Rockerbraves
How about that 4 million buyout? Technicalities could free Rodriguez from contract buyout According to the Charleston Daily Mail, there's a potential legal battle brewing over Rich Rodriguez's well-publicized $4-million contract buyout. Unable to work out an arrangement, Rodriguez produced a letter of resignation, though not effective until Jan. 3. Graduate assistant Mike Parrish then handed the letter to Athletic Director Ed Pastilong when the AD arrived at the Puskar Center later Sunday. Rodriguez may have created a loophole. WVU plays No. 3 Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl Jan. 2. Rodriguez said Monday he doesn't expect to coach the bowl game because he didn't want to be a "distraction," but the obscure date may provide an obstacle for WVU. Rodriguez's contract says he cannot be reassigned. If WVU wanted to have a new coach in place, it could be forced to fire Rodriguez or commit some breach, which could then free Rodriguez from the buyout. http://blog.mlive.com/wolverines/2007/12/t..._free_rodr.html
BS Miscreant
A quote from a buddy of mine, who is a long time Michigan fan, on the new hire. "Can’t beat Pittsburgh to go to the title game? How is he going to beat Ohio State? We'll be lucky if he can figure out how to beat off!"
GWPFFL BrianW
Very true. Another thing that should worry Michigan, is he didn't start racking up that amazing record til when? When the Old Big East got blown up and 3 of it's best teams left the conference. But hey, he beat the 2005 SEC Champions. Then again, Lloyd Carr beat the 1999 SEC Champions too. But it's funny how literally one half of football (1st half vs Georgia) can put you on the map. "How's he going to beat off?" I beat he was chuckling when he said it too. I heard the local radio talk guy (MSU fan albeit) talk about how RR didn't talk about how big the OSU game was in his presser enough and that was discouraging to his UM buddy. How f'n stupid. It's going to be damn tough to beat OSU next year at the shoe returning all those players but I'm not worried about it. I'm looking at 2009 to be a strong year. If we can get 9 wins next year I'll be happy.

Carr never held that game in higher regard and Cooper said it was just another game. If you hold a coach responsible for winning that game over all others than you want a guy who realizes its importance. Thats the issue with bringing in a guy that might not get it. All that being said, you cant tell what a guy thinks from one presser.

Give me a break. I guess he should have tore off his shirt and had die OSU written on his chest. Sheesh. I think Carr did believe the OSU game was the biggest game of the year, he just didn't execute especially and obviously at the end of his tenure. But I have always believed that OSU coaches and fans believe it's a bigger game then Michigan coaches and fans do. I do, I just do.
