The Huddle's Perfect Scoring System

As you can tell from my other recent post, we are trying to do an overhaul of the scoring in my local. We have been using bonus points for length of TDs for the last 8 years, and people have gotten toasted by a guy that has 1 catch for a 50 yard TD compared to a guy that gets 7 catches for 90 yards or something like that. Too much luck involved instead of the quality of player. Make sense?

Anyway, I was wondering how many leagues out there use the Huddle's perfect scoring system and what your thoughts are on it. This would be a major change for my local, and I want to make sure I adopt the right set pf rules for my league. What do you think of the system? It looks great to me, but I have never used it, or have seen a league that uses it. Thanks for your thoughts on the topic, I appreciate it! :D

One league I commish uses a variation of the hpss.

Differences: Defenses start with 6 pts instead of zero (some guys in the league did not like the huge negative scores a defense can get). Also we made sacks worth 1 pt instead of 1/3 or 1/2 pt. It's a TE optional league so we score any TEs the same as WRs.

Overall I think it works pretty good. A top WR is a very good thing to have since they get reception points and RBs don't. Defenses can be very important since a good one will get you consistent positive scores for the most part but a bad one can kill you with a big negative score.

We tried it in the Empire but the Defensive scoring is so f'ed up as to be useless. We ended up completely revamping the Def scoring as to bring it in line with everything else. On average only 4 Def units per week would score positive points with some as high (low?) as -30.

It's all a scam on Doery's part as he hates team defense.

Not scoring positive points was the point of defensive scoring - if your defense sucks it should decrease your score, not give you a couple of points.

I should probably revisit that scoring since it was created several years ago.

We use it in a BOTH league, Any Given Sunday. People don't like the D scoring because they wait to long to draft one. D's start going in the 4th round in this league. We did find the TE scoring to be too generous, and toned that down a bit, but other than that, it's worked pretty good.

Been using a HPPS since it came out for my local auction league. Made some changes over the years. Tweaked the TE's to give 1 ppr instead of 2. Added ppr for RB's. Manipuliate the defenseive score as one or two owners hated the mega negative points. We give 1 point for sacks and I changed the poits allowed and yards allowed to the following...

Award 12.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 0 to 0.

Award 9.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 1 to 3.

Award 6.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 4 to 6.

Award 3.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 7 to 12.

Award -3.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 21 to 27.

Award -6.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 28 to 34.

Award -12.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 35 to 41.

Award -18.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 42 to 48.

Award -21.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 49 to 55.

Award -24.00 points for defensive points allowed in the range of 56 to 101.

- Net Yards Allowed (Pass + Rush - Sack Yds)

Award 10.00 points for net yards allowed (pass + rush - sack yds) in the range of 0 to 150.

Award 5.00 points for net yards allowed (pass + rush - sack yds) in the range of 151 to 250.

Award -5.00 points for net yards allowed (pass + rush - sack yds) in the range of 351 to 400.

Award -10.00 points for net yards allowed (pass + rush - sack yds) in the range of 401 to 500.

Award -15.00 points for net yards allowed (pass + rush - sack yds) in the range of 501 to 999.

We may tweak a little more this next year to allow 4 points for QB (instead of 6) as this year 8 of the top 10 players were QB's.

I like the scoring system because you have to pay attention to all the players (except kickers). Defenses can hurt you so you need a least one good one. I our playoff game this week my opponent had Pittsburg (the number one defense in the league) give him a -14 points while his bench defense had 20 points. That is a 34 point swing!!!! You also need to pay attention to TE's as they can score big points! In an auction league you get a big change each year as owners values of certain positions change from year to year. A couple years ago top defenses were going for 10% or more of cap, this year no one spent more than 5%. Same for TE's Gate went for 20% of cap for the last few years this year he went for 10%.
