I know Hat Trick has been carrying in his sig line all year…

**McBoog on the 2007 Chargers and Norv Turner hiring. "Compared to the other AFC West teams, I think they almost win the division by default. "**

Though he tried to make me look like a genious :D:D , I’m not going to sit here and say that is what really went down. I am still not completely sold on Norv and wanted someone else from the beginning. But, with good talent, much better than he had in Washington and Choakland, he apparently is finally getting the offense tweeked and bought in to the way he likes to run it. My greater concern is Cotrell and what he will do from here on out. Rivera has the LBs playing at an amazing level and the DBs are the best we've ever had as a group!

When I said that the Chargers should “win the season by default”, it had nothing to do with who the head coach was. It actually had less to do with the Chargers as it had to do with the teams in the AFC West.

The Faiders? They were out of it before the season started. Only the delusional fan would have expected even close to a .500 season. Oh, by the way, congrats on last year’s SB victory! I know in your heads you win it every year! (Now will come the replies about how the Bolts have stunk it up and have never won a SB, blah, blah, blah :D … too easy to hook, to predictable to have fun with :D )

The Chiefs? I am as big an anti-Herm guy as many of you are anti-Norv. They have lost too much of what made them competitive, particularly the O-Line that dominated for so long. LJ was not the reason the O moved, it was the line and the coaches. Herm is NOT going to put up numbers on offense and does not have a team that can play from behind. I saw this and the next few years as transition.

The Broncos? I just think that their time has run its course. Shanny is too predictable and his ego is out of control when it come to personnel decisions! They have in large ignored the draft and have not been good at getting real future talent. Cutler has not shown any real improvement over the season, and as a second year starter, was suspect to begin with. They keep bringing in re-treads from other teams and hailing them as maor free agent acquisitions. None have really panned out… remember the great, “Let’s purchase the failed Cleveland Browns D-Line” ??? What great miracle, other than the other-worldy coaching ability of Shanny and his staff, was going to suddenly make those guys good? I thought the Broncos, IMHO, were an 8-8 team at best, and this was the biggest competition in the division.

Now comes the Chargers (the only team in the division to NEVER have won a SB, feel better Faider Fans?) who are coming off of a 14-2 Season and placing ten guys in the Pro Bowl. Many in the press were saying the depth of this team is the best in the league (and has bailed them out this season) and that they sit many guys who would start for other teams. My feeling, especially since they left the "systems” in place (though run very differently this year), was that ANY Bozo could come in and get this team to a 10-win season. Norv has come in and almost proved me wrong. With two games left, he needs to win one for ten games, win both for a very respectable 11-5 record with one of the leagues toughest schedules (even playing in the crappy AFC West) and the Bolts are assured the third seed behind Indy and NE, just where many people had them placed, third best in the conference.

This was the basis of my thinking. There was just not another team in the division that was going to win more than 8 or 9 games and the Chargers, I felt were good for at least 10.

I didn’t and still don’t predict a SB victory for my Chargers. Do they have a shot? YUP! Look at the Steelers improbable run. The 4th quarter, come-from-behind victory to a nasty Titans team in their crib was just what this team needed to get back to the same type of mind set they had last year. The Titans literally slapped them out of whatever it was they were in. The Chargers are getting HOT at the right time and Norv, with a talented team, isn’t looking like quite the dunderhead I was beginning to believe he was. I still have some way to go to “buy in” all the way, but a win or two in the playoffs will go a long way to helping that. What is important is that the players themselves have apparently bought into what Norv is trying to do with the offense to make it better than it was before. That is finally beginning to show up, as well as the defense.

Talent wise, I think the Chargers have a great shot at a successful playoff run. I worry about Rivers and his inconsistent play a bit but mainly I worry about Norv and his decision making abilities during a crucial moment during a game.

Yup! But, can it be any worse than Marty? NOT! :D

:D The team started out like crap and the Chiefs......yes the Chiefs were leading the divison. You acted as if it didn't matter what coach was brought in cause the Bolts had the best overall talent in the NFL. The day Norv was hired you specifically said......that he wasn't the coach you wanted, but it really didn't matter cause the Chargers would basically win the divison by default...its what you said. Now you wanna go back and try and act like you were some smart guy? Come on Boog, seriously.....you're not that dumb and brash are ya? A team can go from first to worst in any divison in the NFL every year. I was pointing out how much of an a$$ you were for making that statement after your team lost to an inferior NE team......your shiatt doesn't stink I'd guess, huh?

Whoa Bro! I guess sarcasm doesn't translate well in the written word. If we were sharin' a :D , you would have chuckled! ;)

But, yes, I did feel, considering the OTHER teams in the division and my evaluation of them (see first post) that I thought because of the talent level and DESPITE the coach, Turner or Bozo the Clown, that the Chargers would win more games than the next best team in the division. i.e., "it didn't really matter". With every new season comes new hopes (new delusions for Raider fans) and the belief that if everything breaks right, my/your team is the best. I am sure my thought pattern before the season started did NOT sit well with fans of the other AFC West teams, but it was the way I saw it. Once the season started, I was pretty sure that I would have to swallow that opinion when they lost to your Chiefs, in San Diego, to start 1-3. This is why they play all the games, and realistically, I guess I was correct. There is not a real lot of pride you can take out of winning the weakest division in the AFC, other than the fact that they did start 1-3 and locked it up with two games to go.

I try not to be "brash: it is not my (intentional) style. Hey, I called my shot and I am feeling kind of smart since my prediction about the division was pretty accurate (and I am SURE that part of the way I saw it and predicted that was partially based on my "homerism":headbang: ) . But, I did call that shot before the season started. You've got to give me at least that much!

And with regard to the losing to an inferior NE team in the palyoffs, I think you will agree that we got rid of the primary factor for that, even if he did "coach" the team to 14-2. :D

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Chargers chances heading into the playoffs. They've picked the right time to start putting it all together. Cottrell is starting to unleash the hounds more and play more of an attacking style on defense. Cromartie is a proven playmaker. The offense is finally getting into gear and LT is getting his yards and TDs again. Rivers has done an adequate job over the last couple of games and Chambers has made some big-time catches in traffic. I like what he's queitly added to the team. Gates has fallen off a little bit, but given some time to heal up, he'll be a force once again in the playoffs. The OLine is starting to play better and open some holes. The return of Hardwick helped out alot, esp. for the offensive line calls and coordination. I'm concerned a little about McNeil as his play has dropped off quite a bit this year, but he had a good game last weekend. Hopefully, a little taste of humble pie will get him off the Big Macs and get him more focused and playing with better technique and quickness. Here's to helath and success to the Chargers in the playoffs this year! :D

I actually like the adrenaline of close games. I was surfing my "Ticket" pretty hard by about the late 3rd quarter of the Charger/Lion game. I hope all the AFC West teams are great teams (except for the Choakland Faiders), it makes the season more interesting and the games more meaningful! I am an NFL fan first (probably from being a "gypsy" so much of my life).

Here's to a solid draft and cheap, gold mine free agents for all concerned this coming year! Good luck! :D

McNiel did get a bit of the "Big Head" I think. He has looked slow at times, but is still an alternate pick for the ProBowl. The kid has not really given up that many sacks in the grand scheme, but is not as good as last year.

He was litterally shaken by the shoulder pads in the Titan game by a coach and an all-pro running back on the sidelines. I don't know exactly what they said, but he shut down Haynesworth and Vanden Bosch in the 4th quarter (both pro-bowlers) and actually dominated them toward the end of the game! I see him coming to camp healthier and hungrier (but in a good way) next year.
