Micheal Turner - mini-caution

Ahhhh, yes. Michael Turner. The HOT FA prospect that all of us “sly” FF gurus are eyeing to see what team he goes to and just when to pull the FF Draft trigger on next year.

As a Charger fan. I hesitantly want to throw a “red flag” out there.

Anyone wonder why it was Sproles instead of MT getting all that juicy yardage last week? Sure, LT was being rested, so of course you go to MT, but they didn’t.

Turner “popped” his shoulder out earlier in the game and was pulled in favor of Sproles. Pinnock also showed that he is a much more athletic guy with the ball in his hands than our beloved Lo Neal and just about as good a blocker. But I digress.

As long as I can remember, I “feel” like I have see MT on the injury report pretty regularly throughout his time with the Chargers. Enough to actually think on more than one occasion, “Gee, he is on the report an awful lot for a guy that is not a starter or regular player!” Maybe they wanted to protect both #s 1 & 2, for a playoff run and they were so far up on the Lions they could risk it with Sproles (Pretty cool to have a 100 yard game out of your third string bech guy!), but there is, to me, some concern.

I really do think he will be an awesome starter and chew up yardage in the right system. I fear he could end up in Denver and think his style would be a perfect fit for that O (I don’t think the Broncs would want to pay the $ though). My biggest concern is that he is untested in terms of durability and consistent production.

Another thing I have noticed this year is that he is not as dominant when he comes into games (fewer this year than last… rust maybe?) There just hasn’t been the same explosion and “angry” in his style and has gotten bottled up pretty good a few times. He is also not returning kicks at the same pace he did last year, though still a big contributor on the ST. This still makes me a bit cautious in terms of the injury thingy.

I think he will be a great #2 RB, at least for his first year as a starter, and if healthy, could be a top ten RB. Anyway, something to watch for the rest of the season and rolling into next year’s fantasy draft!

i would imagine since they know hes gonna be gone next year, that they would try to use sproles as much as possible to see if he can be the backup next year rather then draft a RB in the first few rounds?

Well, a simple look at the facts show this: he tweaked his hammy last year and it bothered him for a few weeks 12-14.

He had a high ankle sprain in the preseason in late aug 2007, but started the year healthy. His shoulder pop is new, just this week.

Week 6 of this year he ad 140 yards on 10 carries.

San Diego knows he's gone and want to get a look at younger RBs - their future - as well.

I think in light of the past two years worth of 'injuries' your are exagerrating them in regard to him and his production. Sour grapes.

Not sour grapes. He is a great kid and I'm sorry to see him go for the Boltz, but happy for him. Like I said, it is not something that is glaring, but for a non-starter, it "feels like" to me he shows up on the booboo list more than I would expect :D

If he is sitting there in the late second or third round, I'm all about that!

Michael Turner is a great complement to LT. I'll be rooting for him next year as long as he doesn't go to a team in the AFC West. It does seem like he's tailed off a little bit of late and isn't hitting the holes quite as quickly, but I think he'll be fine. Regarding injuries, his hardnose style and willingness to take on hits and run over people could make him more prone to injury. I think he'll learn when he becomes a feature back the right times to take on the collisions and the times to avoid them.
