MTSuper7
Here's the link. It'll be interesting to flip between the broadcasts to see who does the best job, but it's nice to know we won't have to listen to Bryant Gumbel now... Apparently this is the first NFL game to be simulcast since Super Bowl I. Edit to add that it looks like CBS and NBC will simply be carrying the NFL Network's broadcast, so Gumbel on three channels instead of one (assuming he's doing this game). Fatman
CBS and NBC will actually be airing the NFLN broadcast. So you get Gumbel on three channels instead of just one.

xMRogers
While I see the merit behind this from both sides, why two networks and not just one? Anyone heard that part?
Patriots
This is a slap in the face to everyone that paid for NFL Network this year. IMO the Dallas Green Bay game was a way better draw than this and they didn't give that away.
Bill Swerski
This is a slap in the face to everyone that paid for NFL Network this year. More like a slap in the face to the NFL. And they f'n deserve it because they've gotten WAY too big for their britches over the past year or so.
pig devilz
it was a smart business decision. they could have said f-off, but that would only work against them.
Big John
While I see the merit behind this from both sides, why two networks and not just one? Anyone heard that part? I am assuming that the NFL did not want to give preferential treatment to one network over the other, though it would be a natural CBS game since the AFC team is on the road. Dr. Rock
CH. 9 here in NYC (the free over the air station that was to broadcast the game) is already making noise about the NFL violating their contract, which was to have them be the sole exclusive over the air provider of this game. This is going to be unbelievable - I'll have the same game on channels 2 (CBS), 4 (NBC), 9 (WWOR), plus whatever channel the NFLN would be on. If, you know, I got it. Grits and Shins
If the NFL was serious about selling the NFL Network they wouldn't crumble under pressure and this game would not be broadcast on other channels.

xtra
Its nice that everyone will be able to see the game, but its a slap in the face to the people who wanted to watch previous games and couldnt. Will they do the same thing for the bowl games they have on their network coming up?I imagine people would like to watch those as well
pig devilz
If the NFL was serious about selling the NFL Network they wouldn't crumble under pressure and this game would not be broadcast on other channels. i think its just the opposite.....this will be a 3-4 hour commercial for the NFLN since the production of the game will be by the NFLN with its announcers, promo's, etc.... they caved because of Congressional and fan pressure. why piss off the consumer you are trying to attract? many more than the 40% who get the NFLN want to see this game and they will. taking your single channel and tripling or quadrupling it, doesn't hurt you.... in the Boston area it will be on ALL 3 major network affiliates, ABC, CBS, NBC and of course NFLN. i think its a brilliant move on their part... xMRogers
Realized on my drive home that giving it to one network and not the other would mean giving one network huge ratings. Now seems really odd that i can flip between three channels and see the same darn thing - like it's the State of the Union. As much as this is the NFL 'caving' a little, I think it's a lot more of a "it's our ball, and when we want to, you can play with it...but we'll take it whenever we want". Interesting to see if anything happens in the offseason over this. Still think the fact this causes a huge uproar but no one cares about Sunday Ticket being DirectTV only is odd. rattsass
The sad part is that this will be the coming out party for the NFL network to the masses, and their less than stellar announcing crew and production shortcomings will be on full display. After three hours with Grumble, the NFL Network-less masses will probably decide they aren't missing much after all.
Bill Swerski
Isn't it the NFL that agreed to this? Yeah, after a massive amount of pressure from angry fans. Do you think that they actually WANTED to show this game for free on the networks? Goodell & Co. are over-playing their hand. They need to back off of this pseudo-pay-per view crap before they end up going the route of professional boxing.

Yeah, and who wouldn't want to run right out and sign up for NFL Network after hearing Bryant Gumbel call a game? We get him on multiple channels Saturday night :sarcasm: WOO HOO! :sarcasm:

Dr. Rock
The best will be the non football fans who haven't been following the NFL network ruckus at all, and turn on their TVs saturday night to see this game on 4 different channels - just, as was stated above, like the State of the Union. You and the rest of the angry fans are too cheap to fork over the extra $6 a month to get the NFL Network.

You and the rest of the angry fans are too cheap to fork over the extra $6 a month to get the NFL Network. I have NFL Network. I'm talking about the casual fan who wants to watch his local team for free over one of the networks like he has for the past 30+ years. And who the hell are you to call somebody "cheap" because their financial priorities don't align with yours?

The casual fan in the broadcast area of his local team will get the game broadcast on a local station. If someone needs to worry about an extra $6 a month, they shouldn't be following football. Randall
If Congress(or the FCC) wants to do what's right they should look at the monopoly DTV has on Sunday Ticket as well as dictating to fans what "local" stations they are forced to watch.I live in Wisconsin but have to take Minnesota locals because they are closer. I want a choice, maybe 2-3 cities. I would also see the monopolies cable companies have in communities changed. All of these prevent competition.
