NFL Draft Order ~ Who gets the 3rd, 4th & 5th picks?

The Phinz get the 1st pick & the St Louis Lambs have the 2nd.

Then the waters get a little muddy with the Raiders, FalCAN'TS, Chefs & JETS - JETS - JETS all sporting a 4 - 12 record.

I'm sure the info is out there somewhere but I haven't seen it yet. How do the 3, 4, 5 & 6 slots of the NFL Draft break down.

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

EDIT: To add the K.C. Chefs to the mix as well.

• Strength of schedule for the previous season is the first tie-breaker for teams with the same winning percentage.

• Divisional and conference records are the next step in the tie-breaking procedure.

• As a last resort, a coin toss is used to determine the order of selection for teams with the same winning percentage.

The middle step was recently inserted.

2008 DRAFT ORDER

1. Miami

2. St. Louis

3/4/5 Atlanta, Oakland, Kansas City

6. N.Y. Jets

7. New England (from San Fran.)

8. Baltimore

edit: article changed where they had the order set rather than the coin flip that will be used.

Whichever team has the weakest SOS will pick before the other ... and if they're tied, then they'll look to the divisional stuff.

Tied in SOS and division.

The first flip, between Kansas City and Atlanta, will determine the 3rd pick. If Atlanta wins that flip, Kansas City will pick 4th and Oakland 5th. If Kansas City wins that flip, a second coin flip, between Oakland and Atlanta, will determine the 4th and 5th picks.

Buffalo and Denver will also flip a coin for the 11th and 12th picks.

Seems to be right around where Buffalo picks every year. :D

All Denver had to do was lose to Minny yesterday and they would have been picking 9th. They might have lost 3 draft spots for that meaningless win. I will be watching this draft closely to see what players go in the 9th, 10th and 11th spots.

On the flipside, when it was clear that WAS was going to win i was hoping the Vikes would manage to lose...not sure how many spots they saved by losing

Atlanta, Kansas City, and Oakland had the same strength-of-schedule (.516). The Raiders won a tiebreaker with the Chiefs based on their having a worse record in common games. The Raiders were 2- 12 in such games, the Chiefs 3-11.

So, the Raiders will get the rights to a pick ahead of the Chiefs. That pick will be either the No.3 or the No.4, pending a coin flip between the Falcons and Raiders at the scouting combine in February.

The Falcons will pick third if they win the coin flip, the Raiders fourth and the Chiefs fifth. If the Raiders win the flip, they will pick third, and the Falcons and Chiefs will be involved in another coin flip to determine the fourth and fifth slots.

I would suppose that ATL, OAK an KC all had some games in common; why only consider the KC/OAK common games?

Specifically:

MIN -- ATL lost; KC won; OAK lost

JAX -- ATL lost; KC lost; OAK lost

HOU -- ATL won; KC lost; OAK lost

TEN -- ATL lost; KC lost; OAK lost

IND -- ATL lost; KC lost; OAK lost

ATL = 1-4

KC = 1-4

OAK = 0-5

Common games were used as a tiebreaker for their division, not the draft. OAK came in 4th in the AFC West, thus winning the division record tiebreaker.

KC and OAK were both 2-4 in the division.

KC was 3-9 in the conference; OAK was 4-8.

OAK shows up 4th in the AFC West because of alphabetical order... :D ...?

The division tiebreaker process goes like this:

overall record (tied at 4-12)

1. head to head (tied at 1-1)

2. division record (tied at 2-4)

3. common games (OAK 2-12, KCC 3-11)

4. conference record

5. strength of victory

etc..
