WaterMan
They had a Superbowl worthy team last time he led in passing yards. Edited January 3, 2008 by WaterMan

DemonKnight
Wow, I wonder if that stat speaks to the importance of ballance in the playoffs.
myhousekey
People don't go 16-0 in the regular season all the time either....
Cameltosis
I find this amazing. I wonder how many teams won the SB with the leading rusher? I believe TD in Denver and I am sure Emmitt in Dalas, of the top of my head.
peepinmofo
People don't go 16-0 in the regular season all the time either.... Closest I recall is Minnesota in 98 I think to go 15-1. they broke records on offense that year too. They lost in the playoffs...
MTSuper7
If any team can buck this trend, it's probably the Patriots. Still, this has to be a somewhat ominous trend to Pats fans.
CaP'N GRuNGe
Closest I recall is Minnesota in 98 I think to go 15-1. they broke records on offense that year too. They lost in the playoffs... With the one loss to TB by a FG, and the OT loss against ATL in the NFC Championship game after Gary Anderson missed his first FG all year which would have sent to the Vikings to the SB against Denver... Bill Swerski
They had a Superbowl worthy team last time he led in passing yards. Your memory is failing you. Their defense was ranked 26th in yards allowed that year and they got run over by the Broncos in the playoffs. That said, the Pats have a good shot of breaking that trend this year, as their D is much, much better than they were two seasons ago. heydave76
Not only is the passing yardage leader oh-fer-42 in WINNING the SB, they are a mere 3 for 42 in even GETTING there. Haven't there only been 41 Super Bowls?
ts
Perhaps more amazing than the Super Bowl thing is that Neil Lomax actually led the NFL in passing yards one season. 1987 Neil Lomax Cardinals 3387 Missed playoffs

McBoog
That is the most insane irrelevant stat ever. Good find NOT irrelevant at all! Ball control (running consistantly) and Defense wins championships no matter how they change the rules (unless they make running the ball illegal). LooGie
NOT irrelevant at all! Ball control (running consistantly) and Defense wins championships no matter how they change the rules (unless they make running the ball illegal). this is a great point, and it's in a great thread. Impecable bumpage. I had totally forgotten this little stat (due to going "oh please, like it matters this year. they're winning XVII. Period. Time for a drink")

Chavez
"oh please, like it matters this year. they're winning XVII. Period. Time for a drink" This is to show that I am far from tooting my own horn on this - because I ran across it and thought "hmmm, that's interesting; I guess the Pats are going to break THAT precedent as well." Hindsight shows, not so much.
