rajncajn
Man you've got to love the NY media...they give Tiki no slack whatsoever. Giants' MVP: Could it be... Tiki? Tiki, take a bow. If the Giants and their fans - this includes the ones in the stands and the ones disguised as media members - are inclined to blame Tiki Barber for the team's woes last season, they have no choice but to credit him for its resurgence this season. Characterize it any way you like - motivational speaking, addition by subtraction, forcing Eli to finally become a Manning - but clearly, there is no rational way to explain why the Giants, an 8-8 bust last season with Tiki, now are one win away from the Super Bowl without him. irish
Man you've got to love the NY media...they give Tiki no slack whatsoever. I absolutely love it!! Tiki was a complete oil and vinegar-nozzle this year using his new position to take stabs at Eli and others in the Giant organization. Now he gets to watch his old team play in the SuperBowl without him. Man I hope the Giants win, not only to stick it to Tiki but to ruin it all for the Pats as well. rattsass
I saw Tiki on Charlie Rose (I think it was) and he was in full damage control mode. Praising Eli and the rest of the Giants and staff. Just as if he never said any of those nasty things earlier this season.
skylive5
drbob and I were talking about his taking shots at the Giants all season after the game last night. Will be interesting what he has to say now. LOL

Just as if he never said any of those nasty things earlier this season. I didn't see what he said as nasty. I thought he was just being honest. At the time Eli was like Favre was when Sharpe was still playing. He wasn't yet the dominant voice on the team. Tiki said his attempts at speaking to the team were awkward, comical at times. Whenever anyone tries something new they stumble. I know when I look back at myself in new jobs I look the same way. Eli used that as an apportunity to rally the team, but I still think they took Tiki's comments wrong and I'm not a Tiki fan. Life goes on. Win the super bowl. rajncajn
http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/gia...0,2249020.story Tiki Barber not jealous of Giants' successBY NEIL BEST January 20, 2008 Tiki Barber has maintained a low public profile during the Giants' playoff run, commenting primarily on his own Sirius Satellite Radio show. But he did sit down with PBS' Charlie Rose for an interview that debuted Friday night. Even though the Giants are a victory from reaching the Super Bowl, Barber said he has no regrets about retiring and added, "I'm proud of them. They've done a lot and accomplished a lot." When Rose asked if Barber is concerned that the current group of backs could make people forget him, he said, "I hope they do. That's what it's all about." Barber said that while he is a Giants fan and will root for them, as a fan, he also would enjoy the drama of Brett Favre against the Patriots in perhaps his final game in the NFL. "It's just a [good] story," he said.

irish
It wasn't that bad. And most of what he said was accurate. Maybe not. However, I don't like Tiki and am enjoying the fact that the Giants are having success without him.
rattsass
It wasn't that bad. And most of what he said was accurate. Well, it is a strange situation when a player goes directly into the media. You are carrying privileged information in your hip pocket. I can see how some people felt it was wrong for him to say the things he said. But the fact is that he was no longer a member of the team at that time, he was now a member of the media. His loyalty only to himself and his career. A career that includes mindless banter with the chicks on The View and other socially irrelevant talking heads. Whether what he was saying was true or not really wasn't the issue. I think some people thought he soiled the sanctity of the locker room, and that always pisses off somebody.

BigMikeinNY
Giants fans, we gotta be honest here - Tiki was one of the greatest players on our team in the past 20 years. He played in EVERY game in his last 5 seasons, the guy was a work horse. He averaged if 1,500 yards RUSHING his last 5 seasons and had 450 yards REC. every year since '99. The guy was a great player and a role model when on the field. Tiki would run a guy over and then extend a hand to help the guy up. The things he said once he "retired", well I am sure he wishes he could take those back. But let's not throw a guy under the bus who gave us 10 great seasons and left at the top of his game. But let's not throw a guy under the bus who gave us 10 great seasons and left at the top of his game. He was talking DURING his career too, it was just overlooked until his retirement talk. He tossed coaches and players under the bus a lot while he was playing. And he made cheap, personal comments about Eli (talking about his pep talks being comical has nothing to do with him talking about his playing ability). He has earned the scorn most Giant fans feel for him now, it's what he wanted and so now he should enjoy it while Giant fans still remember him enough to care. BM Left at the top of his game. While The New York Football Giants are on top of their game now. I hope they win it all so Eli can get his due credit. Also so that in the end Tiki feels dumbfound because he pretty much wrote this team off for another 5 year by his comments. Back to back Manning championships would be a first as well. Brothers winning it back to back. How weird and how often will this happen again if ever. GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

BM I've never been an idol worshipper when it comes to athletes or anyone else in the public eye, but Tiki was someone I admired tremendously, to the point where I wanted to meet the guy and said I would take the trip to Canton if he ever got inducted. I can never take away what he accomplished through sheer hard work and determination, and I still think that is a huge inspiration. But what he said after he retired was unforgivable and now I really dislike him as a person. I don't care that I agreed with most of what he said at the time, that I have said the exact same things about Eli and Coughlin. This is our family, period. You don't air your dirty laundry on national TV like that, using your inside information and opinions to advance your media career. It's incomprehensible that as good as he was on the field, he really seems to have zero respect for the brotherhood that he was a part of, not to mention the team and the coach that helped him get over his fumbling problem and rise to the elite level at his position. The guy went from a dismissed little third-down scat back to a borderline Hall of Famer (not that I think he deserves to get in), and he acts like he is the only person who can take any credit for that. The irony is that crotchety old Coughlin has made an effort to be more of a players' coach this year and it is working. The team is rallying around him like a respected father figure. I wonder if that would have happened to this extent if Tiki and his huge ego was still on the team.
GoldenGopher
I don’t have a huge issue with what he said, but it did lack a little class. It would surprise me if he lasted more that 3 years as a commentator (on a major network). He’s really not very enjoyable to listen to. I get an insincere vibe from him that make it hard to watch/listen. He does have nice teeth though.
whomper
Tiki also threw Coughlin under the bus whenever he got the chance. He can say it doesnt bother him and he is happy all he wants . Deep down you know its killing him
