NFL may allow radio for defense

I'd love to see it happen, but I'm also curious as to how this question would be answered:

"Unlike the quarterback, who generally plays the entire game, most defensive players leave the field regularly as part of a team's substitution pattern. The question has been whether more than one defensive player should have a helmet with a radio. If only one player's helmet has one, opponents to the proposal have wondered, what happens when he's not in the game? And if more than one defensive player's helmet has a radio, will officials be expected to monitor that only one of those players is in the game at a time?"

Will a few guys have 2 helmets on the sidelines - one with a green dot and one without?

The answer is easy. Multiple helmets with radios in them. An LED is attached to the helmet. When the radio is active, the LED is on. Thus the refs can monitor if more than one LED is on. Or the radio equipment can be league issued and only transmit on one frequency at a time. Each helmet that is wired can only pick up one frequency. Etc. There are myriad solutions to the issue. Anyone who feels that this should prevent us from giving defenses the benefit of radio that offenses have had for years is being a defeatist. Technology allows us to do amazing things these days. Football has fully embraced technology, and this should not present us with any sort of insurmountable hurdle. If defensive helmets aren't wired by next season for this reason it is a result of lazy thinking.

I thought MSaint was a kicker ?

:D An oldie but a goodie.

And why is this "defensive players using radios in their helmets" thing news? The Patriots have been using them for years now.
