2006 Orin Swift Cellars "The Prisoner" Napa Red Blend

I was looking for a zinfandel. This wine is a pretty unique blend - zinfandel (about 50%), cab, syrah and a couple others. Lots of berries and fruit. Lush and tasty.

And a cool label.

I'm going to buy a case methinks.

I had the 06 a couple months ago and found it to be extremely tight and unbalanced...I wasn't all that impressed. Certainly not a bad bottle of wine, just didn't stand out as that good. The 05 is drinking better now so maybe the 06 will catch up in time.

Menage a Trois = Great? Its a fine QPR wine but wouldn't classify it as great.

Always looking for good blends.

Another great blend: Menage A Trois by Folie A Deux. $6-$8 a bottle, we drink it often.

ETA: Just saw the pinned twiley wine thread!

In terms of NFL QBs, would you define, say, David Garrard as "great"?

I believe that's Law Dawg's point.

The word "great" gets thrown around a lot and I don't think it's too much to ask that a wine be truly remarkable in some way in order to be considered "great".

That doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy tasty wines like Menage because they certainly deliver for the money. But, by most accepted definitions, it is not "great". I'm pretty sure even the folks who make it would agree.

I should have thown an Irish wink at the end.

I'm clearly in that middle ground between having a palate that can discern the subtlties in the wine and still being able to enjoy those $6 bottles of Yellowtail Shiraz.

I can still enjoy $6 bottles of wine as well. Just not Yellowtail. I'll crush $6 Argentine Malbecs and cheap Rioja any day tho.
