myhousekey
Per PFT.com POSTED 9:03 p.m. EST, February 26, 2008 SAMUEL SAID TO BE A "DONE DEAL" IN NEW ORLEANS There's increasing chatter in league circles that the Saints have worked out a deal with cornerback Asante Samuel. Yeah, it's tampering. But no one seems to care about that. Samuel supposedly is looking for a contract with an average value in excess of $10 million per year. kingfish247
Per PFT.com ...because the last time the Saints went after a CB looking for a new team/contract it worked out SO well...
Perchoutofwater
I was hoping the Cowboys would go after him, but at $10,000,000 a year, the Saints can have him.
i_am_the_swammi
Interesting.... reports in Philly have the Eagles going after him hard tomorrow night to the tune of 5-years, $55M ($11M per year).... reports have now surfaced here that the Eagles and Pats have already begun talks that would then send disgruntled incumbant Lite Sheppard to the Patriots as Samuel's replacement (contingent on the Eagles ability to sign Samuels). Sturphy
It could all be drummed up by his agent for all we really know.
loyalboyd
Who ever gets him better have a super pass-rush. Because Samuels will look ordinary if no pressure and will also get burned. I believe he is a system guy. But everyone should go get their money and that is what Samuels doing.

I would think the higher of your two 3rds might get it done, but they'll be shopping him to a number of teams, I would think. One school of thought has the Eagles packaging Sheppard and their #19-overall in hopes of moving up into the top-10, where they could select an impact DL. Another rumor has Sheppard headed to Arizona for Fitzgerald (sounds like wishful thinking) in some sort of sign-and-trade deal. Sheppard has some nice value to the team he goes to...he is only one year into a 5-year contract (though he is looking to get it re-done just 10 months after signing it...) I would guess the Eagles would be looking for a low 2nd-rounder/high 3rd rounder for a young, Pro-Bowl CB.

HowboutthemCowboys
Who ever gets him better have a super pass-rush. Because Samuels will look ordinary if no pressure and will also get burned. I believe you could say that about ALOT of "great" corners.
spanky08
Samuels is a system corner, and i think he wont have as much success as he did with Pats. That whole defense was a system and thats why he strived to become one of the best corners in the league but hes just on his way down now
rajncajn
The local sports talk show had Saints GM Mickey Loomis on tonight & he stated emphatically that the rumor is completely false & made it a point to say that to date the Saints have had no contact whatsoever with the Samuels camp. Well yeah, because otherwise it would be tampering. Of course he's going to say that.
