Titans Re-Sign Gage

The Titans have re-signed WR Justin Gage to an undisclosed, multi-year deal.

Gage was the best receiver the team had last year, averaging 46.9-yards-per-game. The signing shows that the team would like to keep him as a starter on one side. They will likely dip into free agency for a receiver to line up across from him. Gage could be a decent WR3 going into the summer. Givens was released.

Crumpler In Tennessee

Free agent TE Alge Crumpler is visiting Tennessee on Wednesday.

The Titans have been said to be very interested in signing Crumpler ever since he was released by the Falcons. If Crumpler signs, it will give a big boost to the Titans' offense and a nice weapon for QB Vince Young. His fantasy value could get a nice boost as well.

Bills Release A-Train

The Bills have released RB Anthony Thomas.

Thomas has bounced around the league since being drafted by the Bears. His best years came in 2001 and 2003, when he had 1,000-yard seasons. He is currently rehabbing a torn calf muscle suffered during the 2007 season, so he might not be healthy enough to take a physical elsewhere.

Benson Gets Plate In Ankle

Bears RB Cedric Benson may lose a step after having a small plate surgically inserted to repair a fractured ankle.

The 2005 draft is starting to look like a dud for highly drafted running backs. Buccaneers RB Cadillac Williams is on his last wheel. Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown's status is unknown after a new coaching staff tookover. And Benson hasn't had much success after the Bears traded RB Thomas Jones to the Jets last year. In his first year as the full-time starter, Benson averaged just 3.4-yards-per-carry and had his season ended when he was put on injured reserve after 11 games. If the team stands pat and doesn't bring in competition, he could redeem himself, but as nothing more than an RB3. And that's being generous.

Cowboys: Cowboys, Adams still talking

02/27/08 03:24 PM

THE NEWS

The Dallas Cowboys have exchanged contract proposals with LT Flozell Adams during the past week, but the two sides have not been able to nail down a mutually beneficial deal, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Adams, 32, just completed a five-year, $25 million deal that paid him a $10 million signing bonus in 2003, but the organization is apparently concerned about his advanced age. Adams, who has started the entire 16 game slate in eight of the past nine seasons, has played his entire career in Dallas.

Panthers: Colbert, Carter could be expendable

02/27/08 04:05 PM

THE NEWS

The return of Muhsin Muhammad to the Carolina Panthers could make Drew Carter and Keary Colbert expendable, according to ESPN.

The hope in Carolina is that Muhammad will be a veteran mentor for second-year WR Dwayne Jarrett, who the team would like to see seize the number two spot on the depth chart. If Jarrett is not up to the task, then Muhammad could fill the slot on the other side of Steve Smith, and Jarrett could be the third receiver. Neither Colbert, nor Carter has been very consistent the past couple of seasons.

Free agent TE Alge Crumpler is visiting Tennessee on Wednesday.

Jeff Fisher LOVES tight ends.

If this happens, Crumpler's value goes dramatically up.

My thoughts exactly. Crumpler got banged up last year and quite honestly didn't seem too motivated because of the team's issues. However, I think if he lands in the right spot, like Tennessee, he very well could be a force at the position again. Time will tell.

Maybe if Kerry Collins is the Qb. How many TD's did Vince throw last year?

Who'd he really have to throw to? Gage was his best WR with his less than a 50 yard per game average. I view Young as a better passer than Vick and look at what Vick was able to do with Alge. Young would be a better QB with Alge in the fold. He would have another option to keep defenses honest respecting the pass a bit more and would then be able to exploit defenses with his legs when defenses are back on their heels.

I agree with what you've said. Vince is not too bad, if TN lands Alge and one decent WR in FA, Vince could be top 5 next year. Vince has had his development slowed by the WRs there, I think he may still be the best QB of his class.

Chappy, interesting tidbits here. Where did you get them from? You should always credit your sources.

Good point, my mistake. I got those pieces from 2 separate places- Fanball and another fantasy site fantasyfootball.com. I didn't want to be nabbed for spamming but I guess it's only right to quote the sources otherwise I'd be breaking other rules. Thanks for the heads up Kid Cid.

Crumpler, Troup, BJones and whoever else they have is almost like a power offernse...especially with White at RB...

Chris Brown should be used in the short passing game with his height and running ability..

Green Drawing Interest

QB Trent Green is reportedly drawing some interest from a couple teams.

The Rams, Saints and the Giants are all said to have some interest in Green. He will likely interview for a backup job, which doesn't help his fantasy value.

Johnson To Visit Bears

WR Bryant Johnson is set to visit the Bears.

The Bears are going to have to fill the void left by WR Bernard Berrian. We wouldn't put much stock in Johnson being a breakout player. It's pretty easy to rack up points playing across Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald and WR Anquan Boldin.

Cowboys Looking At Bell

It's being reported that the Cowboys have interest in RB Tatum Bell.

Bell's finesse style of running would be a perfect compliment to RB Marion Barber's power running style. We will keep owners updated.

Seahawks/Crumpler Close

The Seahawks and free agent TE Alge Crumpler are reportedly close to a new deal.

Crumpler would be back with his old Falcons HC Jim Mora Jr. With the way the Seahawks like to air it out, Crumpler could becomes a TE1 again, but draft him as a TE2 for now.

Bills Looking At Johnson

It's being reported that the Bills have contacted WR Bryant Johnson.

Johnson hasn't got many calls so far in free agency. So any interest in him is a big plus. The Bills are looking for another weapon to take some heat off WR Lee Evans, but we don't believe Johnson can be that guy.

Fitzgerald Hurt Faneca Deal?

According to Jet's G Alan Faneca's agent, there was a good chance Faneca would have signed with the team if they had gotten WR Larry Fitzgerald's contract done.

And so it starts. Yes Fitzgerald does deserve more money for the way he has played, but he is seriously handicapping the team. We expect the Cardinals to miss out on a couple more key free agents in the next couple weeks until they get this ordeal behind them.

Berrian a Vike soon?

http://ww3.startribune.com/vikingsblog/

Was that Berrian?

March 1st, 2008 – 12:12 PM by Judd Zulgad An odd thing happened as media members waited in the Winter Park practice facility for the Madieu Williams’ news conference to begin. A Vikings official and someone wearing a Vikings cap and with a Vikings jersey in his arm emerged from the team’s weight room.

First thought: Did we just see Bernard Berrian? It certainly wasn’t Williams and it looked like Berrian.

There is no confirmation it was him. However, later in the news conference Vikings coach Brad Childress did say that Berrian remained upstairs at Winter Park and that talks were still ongoing with the receiver. “He’s not here against his will,” Childress joked. “He’s not shackled.”

But he could be a very rich man, very soon. Vikings exec Rick Spielman did and would not say if Berrian was going to try to take a visit to Oakland today. At this point, it would not be surprising to get wind of a Berrian news conference later this afternoon or Sunday morning.

Update from same link:

Was that Berrian? You betcha

(Update: After examining his picture in the Bears media guide, we are now sure it was the 6-foot-1 Berrian.)

Later in the Williams’ news conference Vikings coach Brad Childress did say that Berrian remained upstairs at Winter Park and that talks were still ongoing with the receiver.

As for defensive end Justin Smith, who signed with San Francisco and did not visit Minnesota, Spielman did not want to comment. ”He’s signed with the 49ers, so leave it at that,” Spielman said.

Updated quote: We just received an e-mail from Smith’s agent, Jim Steiner, asking for a comment on his client’s decision. Honestly, it probably wasn’t that tough of call considering Smith received a six-year deal that includes $20 million guaranteed.

“Justin felt San Francisco was the place for him,” Steiner said. “It was very, very close however. He was scheduled to go to Minnesota Saturday [morning] but it just didn’t work out. The Vikes were great, but in the end the player made the call.”

Vikings interested in Walker

ESPN.com is reporting the Vikings are one of 10 teams that have expressed an interest in receiver Javon Walker. No visits had been scheduled as of early Saturday. Here’s the story. Walker was released by Denver on Friday.

Walker played in a version of the Vikings’ offense when he was with the Green Bay Packers. Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell was the Packers quarterbacks coach when Walker was in Green Bay. Walker also has some friends in the Vikings locker room, including safety Darren Sharper. The two were teammates in Green Bay.

Walker also was a teammate of Vikings receiver Robert Ferguson. However, Ferguson is a free agent and could be looking elsewhere if the Vikings do land Bernard Berrian.

Six Teams Are Interested In Sheppard

Written by Garry Cobb

Saturday, 01 March 2008

Profootballtalk.com is reporting that there are six teams that have shown interest in acquiring the services of the Eagles backup left cornerback Lito Sheppard. Those teams are the Texans, Saints, Buccaneers, Browns, Rams and Jets.

Personally I'm suspicious of this report because a lot of times the source of the story winds up being the agent of the player. It's in the player and agent't interest to have a lot of teams interested in acquiring their services.

I also saw report about 10 teams being interested in former Packers and Broncos wide receiver Javon Walker. 10 teams doesn't sound like a true number.

Here's the story about Sheppard which was in Profootballtalk.com.

SEVERAL TEAMS INTERESTED IN SHEPPARD by Michael David Smith

It's only been 24 hours since the Philadelphia Eagles signed cornerback Asante Samuel, but they're already hearing from teams interested in trading for the cornerback Samuel replaced in the starting lineup.

A league source tells PFT that several teams are showing preliminary interest in trading for cornerback Lito Sheppard. Those teams include the Texans, Saints, Buccaneers, Browns, Rams and Jets.

A team can never have too many good cornerbacks, and the Eagles could choose to keep Sheppard, especially if they move right cornerback Sheldon Brown to safety. But given how much interest there is in Sheppard, it seems more likely that he'll be shipped elsewhere.
