Denver Broncos defensive tackle Marcus Thomas was arrested after a traffic stop in Florida early Saturday morning and is facing a drug charge, the Florida Times- Union reported.

Thomas recently completed his rookie season with the Broncos.

Thomas, 22, faces a charge of drug possession, according to his attorney and a Clay County Sheriff's Office arrest log, the Times-Union reported. Thomas, who played at the University of Florida, was riding in a car that was stopped by police, his attorney, Charles Truncale, told the newspaper. "He was in a vehicle in which a small plastic baggie containing what appeared to be a trace amount of cocaine was found," Truncale told the Jacksonville newspaper. "He did not possess it, nor did he have knowledge of it until the stop of the vehicle. That's what happened. He is not guilty of the charge for which he has been arrested."

Thomas, a fourth- round draft choice, was suspended for part of his senior year in 2006 after he failed a drug test and had other problems.

Great. Well, at least DEN will be getting better & better draft choices in the near future...

Did anyone notice it said riding in a car. So it might not really be his dope. I know he has a history but I bet thats why they took him to jail. His history it just might have been someone else.

ok, enough...several times, shanahan has gambled on "character" guys, thinking that being a denver bronco would somehow magically turn them into "winners" and stand-up citizens. every single time it has blown up in his face (dale carter, daryl gardener, maurice clarett, now thomas). i think he needs to realize that you start with good character to build your organization, rather than hoping your organization will somehow build good character.

I love the lawyer's statement. "They found a small baggie containg what appeared to be trace amounts of cocaine . . . "

Anyone else picturing Bronson Pinchot in True Romance?

From Rotoworld:

The Broncos released a statement on DT Marcus Thomas Monday, acknowledging that they're aware of his Saturday arrest for drug possession.

"The owner/operator of the vehicle has since admitted the cocaine was his and no cocaine was ever found on Marcus Thomas," the statement reads. "Within hours of his release, Marcus had a test which confirmed that there was no cocaine in his system. The Broncos are hopeful that no charges will be filed, and we are monitoring the situation as it goes forward."

So you think this will change Thomas' standards with whom he keeps company?

No, not at all. Sadly, given his reputation, its probably only a matter of time until he gets caught doing something he shouldn't be doing (and I hope I'm wrong about that). On an organizational level, they should should strip Shanahan of any input he has on the defensive side of the ball. Almost everytime they make a defensive signing or draft pick I cringe.

Come on now, weed and cocaine are two very different things. One is a felony count, reguardless of the amount...

I think that depends on which state you are in.
