Guest Chappy
I'm a firm believer that having a solid draft can't neccesarily win you a title but not having a good draft could result in being incredibly uncompetitive and always hunting and pecking for help. However, I believe that more often than not, titles are won because of excellent/timely roster management involving FA acquisitions and trading. What do you guys think? I agree, but I don't think I agree the same reason why. Every year there is a RB in the 1st that just SUCKS or gets hurt. 3 of the top 4 RBs this year, SJ, LJ and Gore ALL were not healthy or good this year. Derek Anderson, Ryan Grant, Colston are thee big names that are GREAT examples of waiver wire guys to help your team out. To think I could've had all these guys. I agree, You can do all your homework on studying players ,have a solid draft and even pick up players but if a injury hits one of your top players it is hard to overcome it. Injuries always make things alot more interesting, frustrating and challenging. This past year was a great example of that.

I have to agree, a team in my local last year drafted two kickers before anyone else drafted one. There team probably would have won the WCOFF championship. Bronco Billy
Don't you mean Jeff Stone? If I would have meant Jeff Stone, I think - no, I'm postive - that I would have typed Jeff Stone. And if I actually would have wanted to type Jeff Stone, I would have typed Shane Stant instead... No, I don't want to actually know the kneecapper - I'm a strong believer in plausible deniability. Bronco Billy
blind luck Luck is created, it isn't randomly assigned. People who think FF is all luck are the same people who make all sorts of sneering comments about the owner who picked up Ryan Grant at the end of September last year, like, "Who in the hell is Ryan Grant, and why in the hell are you wasting a roster spot on a nobody like that? Here, if you need a RB I'll trade you Cedric Benson, who I stole in the 2nd round of the draft instead of that turd."

However, I don't believe that it plays the most intrical role. However, so far the majority of you do. Puddy
I'm just happy that I'm leading 'solid drafting' in the voting. 10 years ago, hard work was the biggest factor. With the advent of places like The Huddle, luck has moved it's way into the top spot.
keggerz
play in larger leagues(16+), add full IDPs, contracts, salaries and a dynasty format along with top notch owners and you take a large portion of the luck factor out of it or in other words the more complicated and involved the less luck plays a factor in things Edited March 9, 2008 by keggerz
boat_hacked
Luck and picking the right FA. the local i play in about 5-6 are ususally in the running. The last 6-7 years the winner of the league has been who had the "hot" player. Brady,LT, SA,etc.... yes we do have a few bozos in the league but picking those FA sure help those somewhat weak in an area.
BeeR
I can't believe NO one has picked the draft. If I'd known that I woulda picked it just to give better representation. esp in redrafts or smaller keepers, the draft is huge. I only picked starting lineups because more and more I see teams with similar talent overall but the winners are the ones who pick the right starters. Course you could argue the luck factor there as well, and FAs are huge too - all these play a part really

Here, if you need a RB I'll trade you Cedric Benson, who I stole in the 2nd round of the draft instead of that turd." BRILLIANT ANSWER!!!! It is faaaaar tooo easy to blame a mystical external force like "Lady Luck" ... Makes you the victim. Takes away the personal responsibility. "Oh, he had luck and I didn't, so he won and I couldn't, even though I'm a lot better" ... Take the example of the guy who drafted Marshall Falk even though he only knew about him from a cheat sheet. Just how well did the other 9 to 15 guys in the league know him? Did they date Falk's sister? Get beat up by him in 7th grade? Hey, if the guy didn't know Marshall Falk from Marshall Dillon, there should have been a trade swung -- one of those who knew Marshall well could easily have packaged up a cheat-sheet-sweet-looking offer and taken MF away from the "lucky" MFer ... But no ... For me, that's part of the appeal of salary cap play -- no "luck of the draft" whining -- just make your best decisions all year long and win if you can. Luck? Yep, I believe in it -- Its just at its best when it's homemade.
