(KFFL)Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions RB Kevin Jones said Thursday, March 13, that he was informed by the Lions that the team will release him. "They told me this morning that they were going to release me," Jones said. "Yeah, I was surprised. I was in two weeks ago and saw the staff and (president Matt) Millen and everything was OK. Two weeks later, they told me I was getting released."

Mendenhall may not be there at 15 and Stewart's availability for Week 1 is a question mark right now. They could wait and grab a Charles/CJ/Forte/Rice or gamble on Alexander I guess.

Chris Brown is still out there, though I'm not sure trading in one Glass Joe for another does much for the Lions. But hey, you never know with that organization.

I heard he was pretty close to signing with the Texans.

We do not need another WR or a old Shaun Alexander. amazing as we need almost everything .but those are 2 things we do not need.

It does seem like we could of traded Kevin Jones for at least a low pick or something though.

... and the Lions re-signed Tatum Bell. I don't even know what to say anymore. Does this mean the Lions are taking a RB in the draft?

I'm no fan of Tatum Bell, and I certainly don't think he's an every-down RB. But he's got a career average of 4.8 yards per carry 5.9 yards per reception. I honestly don't know what caused him to fall out of favor with the Lions last year, but Bell seems like he's got at least some value as a situational player. The biggest knock I have against the guy is that he was born in Dallas.
