Bengal Mania
.....now we see if Colts match. From Bengals.com ok, he is country mile short of Clark (who is a stud receiving TE), but I like the signing. They improve from "absolutely nothing" to "not much, but at least something" You wonder if the Colts would match after dropping serious coin on Clark. I'd think they'd draft his next backup instead. If this works, Bengals passing game will improve. Now, instead of drafting a TE this year, they can pick maybe a 3rd Rnd WR to replace Chad when he holds out for Fitzgerald/Walker money. Otherwise, its DEF all the way in the draft. Maybe a OL in a mid round Edited March 14, 2008 by Bengal Mania
The Wolf
Apparently, he's a good citizen as well, something that Cincy sure could use more of. Wonder what the numbers on the offer sheet were...I know the Jets were looking at him as well. Edited March 14, 2008 by The Wolf
BeeR
I'd be shocked if the Colts don't let him go. The guy was a decent enough backup/TE2, but a bit of a fumbler, somewhat injury prone and IMO not worth spending too much on.

SteelerMurf
the bengals want to be the colts when they grow up?? Exactly! Ever since Palmer and CJ went to watch Peyton and Harrison play...they decided hey we can be like them.
DMD
Each year the Bengals rank near the bottom of the league in using the TE position. That is not likely to change here. Last year they ranked #32 in both yards and TDs by tight ends (they had no scores). In the two previous years, they were never any better than 26th in either category. Utecht will be a blocker and have no fantasy value as a tight end.

He is a good pass catching TE if given the chance. He was an all american in college and he still caught 31 passes last year, but was stuck behind Clark. Bill Swerski
Utecht will be a blocker and have no fantasy value as a tight end. Yep. Utect was a primarily a blocker on the Colts offense, and I imagine that his role won't change much on the Bengals. While he does get banged up a little more than average and doesn't exactly have the best hands in the world, I would hope that the Colts could find a way to keep him around. He is a pretty good blocker and helped Ugoh when he was lined up next to him in those two-TE sets last year.
The Irish Doggy
There certainly isn't any fantasy value here. Its a good signing for the Bengals however. They really struggled when Reggie Kelly was nursing injuries last year, and it doesn't seem like Coats is anything special.
