Hall Refutes Trade Report

Raiders DB DeAngelo Hall recently shot down a report that said the Falcons had traded him to the Raiders for draft picks.

"As of right now, we're still at the same stages that I was at with every other team," Hall said. We will keep listing him as a Raider until further news comes out that the report issued by ESPN was premature.

Is the deal done or not?

The Sacramento Bee is reporting that was Hall was in Oakland on Friday to meet with Raiders officials, but Hall would neither confirm nor deny that he was there.

...

"I will not be a part of another losing team for another year," Hall told the AJC in December. "I've got to do what I've got to do. No matter who hates me."

Yeah, so if that's the case then obviously you'd go visit the perennial contender, Oakland Raiders.

I can see the presser now:

Reporter: "You said you were only going to play for a winning team. Oakland has won 19 games in the past five years combined. They're on their fourth coach in six years, and possibly their 5th in seven years. How do you reconcile these two very different seeming things?"

Hall: "How can a team be a losing team if they're willing to pay me $20 million guaranteed? Seems like a winning attitude to me!"

Oh AL. Have ye learned nothing for that smiley little contemptable prick Dan Snyder? Ye cannot buy a good team. Ye can only mold one.

ESPN's John Clayton reports the contract DeAngelo Hall is expected to sign after he's acquired by Oakland will be for six years and over $50 million.

Nnamdi Asomugha is going to want (and deserve) at least that. Asante Samuel's with the Eagles was for six years and $57.14 million. Clayton says Raiders owner Al Davis is pulling out all the stops to make this deal a reality

********

Got to give it to the old man, at least he's trying this year....if they draft one of the top-2 DTs (Ellis or Dorsey) or one of the top-2 DEs (Long or Golhston), our defense will improve (especially with Namdi / Hall / Wilson and Huff in the secondary and Morrison / Howard patroling the middle)

He should try a little harder at NOT firing the best coach we've had in years.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports trade talks between the Raiders and Falcons involving DeAngelo Hall hit a stall late Monday.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ran a report claiming the exact opposite earlier this afternoon. Schefter says it no longer appears as though the trade will happen. If it's a cap space issue for the Raiders, they could clear some room by releasing LaMont Jordan and Stuart Schweigert.

Hall close to finalizing deal with Raiders

Two-time Pro Bowl CB to sign contract with Oakland Thursday

By STEVE WYCHE

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 03/18/08

Falcons two-time Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall told the AJC Tuesday that he will finalize a contract with Oakland by Thursday morning and that a trade between Atlanta and the Raiders will be consummated shortly thereafter.

Hall said he is scheduled to fly to Oakland Wednesday to meet with team officials and sign a new contract.

"There is just some tweaking of the language that needs to be done, some minor details," Hall said of contract negotiations. "No deal breakers."

Atlanta will receive Oakland's second- and sixth-round picks in the April 26-27 NFL draft. The compensation will give the Falcons four selections in the first 48 picks of the draft — three in the second round. Atlanta holds the No. 3 overall pick along with the 36th and 48th picks.

Once the trade is completed, the Falcons would add the 34th overall selection currently held by Oakland.

I can't see this working out in the long run.

Asomugha better sign that franchise tender, since this deal should give his one year salary a boost. He can get paid for 2008 and get out in a year without ever having to deal with Al Davis.

:D

Yeah, yeah, yeah...6 years & over $50 million...7 years for $70 million...whatever

C'mon guys you know how this works.

The big salary years will be backloaded & when the time comes, Hall either restructures / renegoitiates his contract, or gets cut.

Then you know there will be millions tied into his contract which are supposedly "likely to be obtained" incentives, such as 100 solo kick off coverage tackles, which Hall will never do, because the Raiders won't send him out on kick off coverage.

The chances of Hall seing the full $50 million...or $70 million...or whatever ridiculous number it ends up being, are slim & none...& slim just left town.

It's the guaranteed dollars of his contract that counts. Everything else is merely window dressing that'll play to Hall's vanity allowing him to strut around like king rooster preening & crowing how he's one of the NFL's top paid CB's.

True. But at the same token by the end of his contract he will be turning 32. So its possible he see every penny of this deal.

These days no one in the NFL plays on a contract that's older than 7 years. Either the contract gets torn up and restructured or the player is long gone.

What about Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer and even Tom Brady. I know they all qb's. I just believe at the rate these contracts are going up. If it keeping going up like this. Hall deal and some of the other big names. Their contract will look like steals.

Halls deal was said to be worth 7 years 70 million but it has been reported that it is backloaded towards the last 3 years of the contract

Hall will probably be making 8-9 million a year and then on the last 3 years he'll be makin 12-13

The Raiders have signed a lot of players in the past to backloaded deals.

Even Tim Brown's last contract in 2002 was heavily backloaded....11 and 12 mil in his last two years...he never saw those inflated numbers because even as great as Tim Brown was Al Davis released him before those numbers kicked in.

What about Peyton Manning

Restructured most recently in 2007. When he restructured, he was on a huge deal he signed in 2004.

Carson Palmer

Drafted in 2003 so he can't be 7 years into any contract. Anyways, now he's barely 3 years into an extension (until 2014) he signed in 2005.

Tom Brady

He is signed through 2010 on a contract he signed in 2005. Also, he restructured the deal at least once. Most recently in 2007. He was drafted in 2000 so assuming he was still on his rookie contract in 2005 that's only 6 years.

No one plays on a 7 year old contract anymore.

Larry Fitzgerald can barely buy beer legally and he just had his contract torn up and redone. In the NFL, you can basically forget about the last two years of any deal. Big Score 1 has it right on the money.
