Colston's surgery

Marques Colston had arthroscopic surgery on the left knee that bothered him throughout last season.

He's also rehabbing a hand injury from Week 17 against Chicago and dealt with chronic back problems in his sophomore season. Colston expects to be full speed by next month, but this is a situation to keep an eye on. While Colston has proven to be a player that will perform through injury, all these problems beg the question of whether he is breaking down a bit. Mar. 21 - 9:30 am et

That's an awful lot to read into a knee scope. 3-4 weeks recovery time for the opening to heal & scar, that's pretty much it.

Hmm. I wouldn't exactly call recovering from 3 different ailments in MARCH as "fine". Their season has been over for almost 4 months...

The back is completely recovered, the knee was something he played with all last season and they just went in to clean it out.

I could never understand why guys wait until March/April to have things like this done...why not right after the season?

It was explained on the Saints board that sometimes with rest the problem solves itself. Then again, sometimes it worsens because the knee is resting more & the soft matter that is floating around in there has a chance to harden. Either way it takes some time to know and until they know for sure they stick with the no surgery is better rule.

The issue I'd worry most about as a Colston owner is whether or not the Saints can get someone to compliment him. Devery could be that guy with his speed, but I don't think he'll ever become the consistent player the Saints need. I think Meachem will end up being that player now that he's healthy, but obviously there's a big question mark there. What's most promising for Meachem is that he has a great attitude about his disappointing rookie season and is now leaning very heavily on David Patton for guidance.

Here's a great article on Meachem.
