Colts Could Unload Harrison?

There are rumors surfacing that the Colts could try and unload WR Marvin Harrison.

Harrison clearly started to show his age last year when he missed eleven games because of a knee injury. There were reports last year that the injury could bother him until he eventually retires. We will keep owners updated as more news comes out. But at his age (36), he is clearly not a WR1 anymore.

Saints Offer Trade For Shockey

It's being reported that the Saints had offered a second-round pick and DB Roman Harper to the Giants for TE Jeremy Shockey.

The Giants reportedly turned it down, but there is still a chance that the Saints may up their offer. In the meantime, Shockey is nothing more than a TE2 for now until he can prove he can stay healthy for a full season. The team figures to use TE Kevin Boss a lot this year as well.

In terms of Marvin.........the last part of the article you forgot to add was:

There's no evidence that the Colts are contemplating a move with Harrison any time soon — although they might persuade the veteran to restructure the remaining years of his contract — yet it's a topic that has aroused the interest of league observers.

I don't see how having a knee injury is Marvin "showing his age". It was more his performance in the play-off game that was a major disappointment. Being benched for a guy named Aromashadu is disturbing.

That being said, I'm not ready to throw in the towel on Marvin just yet. As far as we know, he didn't tear any ligaments, and has had plenty of down time to heal. We'll know more in training camp. But there is no way the Colts are going to cut/trade him before that.

Saints Offer Trade For Shockey

It's being reported that the Saints had offered a second-round pick and DB Roman Harper to the Giants for TE Jeremy Shockey.

The Giants reportedly turned it down

IF this is true & the Giants turned down a 2nd rounder and Harper for Shockey, they are flat out nuts. They better than anyone else should realize how much better they functioned on O without him on the field, and to get a 2nd rounder for him is above & beyond the market price. The throwing in of Harper on a team looking for some DB help is a major plus that tips the scales well over to NY's side on the deal.

Wow.

If this Peter King report is accurate, I agree with you 100 % BB.

I am somewhat skeptical though, I can't understand why they would turn down such a deal ; unless they expect NO to up the ante.

That trade offer he's talking about is the same one from a month ago, nothing new has happened. The Saints are still making noise like they'd like to get Shockey, but the Giants are still adamant that they aren't going to trade him.

Like a week before the game Smith tried to nail Gonzo's girl. The team split and an emergency meeting was held the night before the game. Nothing came of the meeting and it showed in the game. Not the sole reason they got blown out, but a big part of it. Gonzo seemed like the only one not affested by the incident. I like this kid, he is very intellagent and a hard worker.

I seriously doubt that report is very accurate. I'd heard they offered a 2nd, but nothing more. With the problems the Saints have in the secondary I could not imagine they would offer to give up their best DB outside of McKenzie for another damaged goods, boom-or-bust player. Shockey may be a stud at TE, but that's just nuts.

I read that a 2nd and Harper is what the Giants WANTED from the Saints, not what the Saints were offering. But, who the hell knows...

From profootballtalk.com

In response to our blurb regarding a report in the Newark Star-Ledger that the New Orleans Saints offered a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper for Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, a source with knowledge of the discussions tells us that the Giants wanted a two and Harper, and that the Saints refused.

I don't see how having a knee injury is Marvin "showing his age".

+1

He's clearly lost some of his burst over the past couple of years, but still he's a more-than-adequate WR #2. Especially when his supporting cast consists of Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, and Anthony Gonzalez.

Like a week before the game Smith tried to nail Gonzo's girl

"T. Smith", as in Troy Smith? Or are you talking about Hunter Smith?

I like this kid, he is very intellagent and a hard worker.

Agreed. He looked pretty good down the stretch. He doesn't have the speed that Marvin did in his prime, but he did catch some deep TD passes late in the season.

Smith is Troy Smith.

I think Gonzo has just as much speed as Harrison had in his hayday.

Isn't Roman Harper one of the DBs the Saints had that really didn't fit their system? I remember reading that a few of their DBs were very good corners, just not the correct fit. But, in context a 2 and Harper is a bit much in my opinion for a player that hurts himself due to his nature. I often enjoy watching Shockey, but he has to learn to take it down a notch. Boss is the man in NY.

Harper is a safety.

Wow, that isn't exactly going to soothe the Colts-Ravens rivalry.

Marvin was VERY fast in his prime. I believe that he ran a 4.38 forty. Gonzo ran a 4.44 or something at the Combine last year. That's still very fast (faster than Reggie, IIRC), but speed like Marvin's in his prime is rare.

Didn't see this before... Jason David id the corner you are referring to. It's been said that he is more of a fit for a cover 2 system. I personally think we'll see some improvement this year for David, but still not worth the price they paid for him. Harper, while not the greatest in pass coverage is a fantastic run stopper. He showed a lot more promise as a rookie, but then tore his ACL at the end of the season. Last year that showed a little, but another year removed I think he's going to be outstanding.
