muck
Q: What happens if OAK (or anyone else for that matter) is so close to the cap they know they will not be able to afford signing anyone worth the 4th overall pick? Possible Answer: They pre-negotiate with a guy they could have had in the 2nd or 3rd round and get him locked onto a contract and signed during the 10 minutes they are on the clock...just like teams have tried (with some success) to do when they have the #1 overall pick. Call a guy up two days before the draft ... a guy who OBVIOUSLY won't be drafted until later on ... and tell him that if he'll agree to sign for $________ that OAK will take him 4th overall, but he has to be prepared to sign the contract before getting picked. ...the same answer could apply to any team that has a fundamental issue with having to fork over insane amounts of money to players who've not proven anything at the expense of vets who have...
