vonromig
Before last season started I responded to a topic (Last year I released MJD and Colston, Now lets here your worst year/move; 8/22/07). I responded with with the following... This could turn into the worst set of trading, or in the long run make me look like a genius... I took over a dynasty team who placed last the year before, giving me the first pick in the rookie draft. My team before all the trading: Eli Manning / Philip Rivers / Alex Smith / Kellen Clemens Travis Henry / Cedric Benson / Carnell Williams / DeAngelo Williams / Jeriuos Norwood Larry Fitzgerald / Javon Walker / Matt Jones / Jackson / Demetrius Williams / Michael Clayton (TB) / Travis Wilson Vernon Davis / Eric Johnson / Pope Leonard Stephen Gostkowski San Diego DEF Before the rookie draft I traded DeAngelo, Jerious, and Alex Smith for two additional first round picks and Mike Bell (Travis' backup). I then drafted - Adrian Peterson, JaMarcus Russell, and Dwayne Bowe in first round, and Mike Walker (JAC), and Kevin Kolb in other two. After the rookie draft I then traded the following players for additional rookie draft picks in '08: Philip River, Travis Henry, Cedric Benson, Javon Walker, and Mike Bell. Then traded matt jones for Reggie Brown. Now my roster looks like this: Eli Manning / JaMarcus Russell / Kevin Kolb / Kellen Clemens Adrian Peterson / Carnell Williams Larry Fitzgerald / Reggie Brown / Vincent Jackson / Dwayne Bowe / Mike Walker / DeMetrius Vernon Davis / Eric Johnson / Pope Leonard Stephen Gostkowski Eagles DEF And 5 first round picks, 2 second round picks, and a third rounder in the rookie draft of 2008. (With this team I could end up with the first round over-all next year as well, and all the trades were with the weaker teams) My thinking is that I will go young and build up a stud farm for 2-3 years down the road. Von" Mr Swiss Cheesehead was 'nice' enough to make a comment that I would end up being called an idiot. So I responded to him that I would keep him up to date on my progress to so if he, or I, were proved correct. This is my first update report: Going into the second rookie draft (2008) I have the following roster: having done a few minor trades and waiver pick-ups during the 2007 season, but nothing earth-shattering. Eli Manning Jason Cambell JaMarcus Russell Kevin Kolb Adrian 'All-Day' Peterson Carnell Williams Kevin Faulk Samkon Gado Larry Fitzgerald Dwayne Bowe Vincent Jackson Reggie Brown Roydell Williams Devery Henderson Jacoby Jones Demetrius Williams Troy Williamson Mike Walker Legedu Naanee Vernon Davis Bo Scaife Brenk Celek Stephen Gostkowski Eagles DEF As I was very accurate in who I traded away my players to I now have the following Rookie Picks: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.1, and 3.1 ( I traded my 1.8 and 2.3 for Roydell Williams) Those in red are those I plan on dropping for the draft. Update for the dynasty complete for the present time... more Updates to follow. Von
Chief Dick
Thanks for the update. I was wondering when this was coming out.
Zooty
I traded my 1.8 and 2.3 for Roydell Williams) Why?
vonromig
Why? Primarily to get rid of a draft pick... having to many can also be a problem if you don't have anyone that you would want to drop, just to pick up an unknown. But I chose Roydell because I believe there is a good possibility that as Vince Young grows as a QB, Roydell showed signs last season that he may grow with him. In a way just hoping that Roydell turns into Young's go-to player, as they work together; two young players learning to work together. Von

Swiss Cheezhead
Thanks. In hindsight, you were lucky to get rid of guys like Henry, Benson, Walker, and Norwood while their value was much higher than it is currently. Still, though, you need to trade two of those first four rookie picks -- I'd suggest 1.01 and 1.04 -- to RB-needy teams and get better at other positions. Then, your team might be in good shape. Keep the updates comin'...
vonromig
I have tried trading, but I think I now have a reputation of sorts within the league. It is not official, or discussed, but the other owners do not seem to want to trade for my top draft picks. It did require a 1.8 and 2.3 just to get Roydell. I would like to think that my reputation is that of someone who knows the players value too well... so anyone I want is someone who will be worth a lot more than what I am offering, and anyone I want to give up will be a nobody later. One of the problems of showing the league that I "knew" which players to trade away last year, and also which teams to trade them to. My plan now is to grab the top 3 RBs and Matt Ryan with my first four picks, the best WR remaining with my 2.1, and best player available with my 3.1. I would feel lucky if even two of the RBs became studs (or at least solid). While I will use my abundance of QBs as a safety net... hoping that at least one of the young guys will turn into a true stud. As it is not presently known to me between Russell, Cambell, Ryan, or Kolb who will become a top QB... regardless of the present hype / gripe of each. vonromig
Slight change of plans... due to Mendenhall going to the Steelers (which makes him a RBBC RB), and the Eagles getting a WR I have altered my draft choices... I will be grabbing: 1.1 Darren McFadden, OAK 1.2 Jonathan Stewart, CAR 1.3 Matt Ryan, ATL 1.4 DeSean Jackson, PHI I could not pass up getting a WR that the Eagles have drafted in the first two rounds. Also the other RBs I was looking at went to team where they will help the team, but I don't think they will be able to put up top fantasy points. Mostly due to being selected by teams that had good RBs already, so they will either be back-ups or in a RBBC. Von

Von so last year you outright RELEASED MJD and COLSTON and you have DeSean as the #4 Rook Pick....you are not very good at this game we call Fantasy Football are you....and fwiw, I am an Eagles fan

I never had MJD or Colston on my team to begin with. And since the WR class is so weak this year, why not have a fan-based grab. Require isn't the word I would use. I'd rather keep the picks. And who on the team would you drop in order to pick up two more unproven, unknown, and questionable players at the 1.8 and 2.3 spot? Von
vonromig
i am curious what sort of production you expect DeSean to put up in year 1 and then say yr 2 for the birds Year One If he is lucky enough to return kicks, then he will get on the field... otherwise I don't see much at all in the WR position. Year Two If he shows any progress at all he may appear in a couple of plays a game... which may increase with the season if he is any good. I hope that with the extra Carolina first rounder, the Eagles use it to grab the veteran stud WR available for trading in this year's off-season. And if this is the case there is a chance that DeSean may be lost in the shuffle (not having enough time to show what he can do). I would not expect anything from DeSean until his third year, and only if he turns out to be an NFL worthy WR. Since I don't follow college football, I only know about players like DeSean by what I read or hear second-hand. So I have no idea if he will be the next Steve Smith or Charlie Rogers.
