Who needs picks? The Shehawks will just pick the likes of Mirer, McGwire, Bosworth, Jerramy Stevens, KRob, the list of great picks goes on and on!!!

Can't wait to see the purple turd your boys squirt out in 08, can you?

Jackson and Carlson...interesting. I just don't understand :D

I don't know why people hem and haw about what a team does so low in the first round of the draft.

Jackson seems like he was drafted for his versatility (played inside on 3rd down packages in college), and he has room on his frame to bulk up 15 lbs. Kearney is not going to play that much longer, and with the recent events with Rocky Bernard slapping his ladyfriend around, I suspect depth is on the mind of the front office. See 4th Round pick this morning of DT Red Bryant for verification of this.

Trading a 2nd and a 3rd to acquire Carlson seems steep, but Holmgren and Ruskell immediately said Carlson was the #1 TE on their board. Also, the very first thing I remember reading in the offseason about the Seahawks draft possibilities was regarding Carlson as THE target for the TE position at the #24 spot.

I'll have more input about the Day 2 players later I suppose, but Ruskell's tenure has produced enough draft picks that have fit perfectly into the defensive schemes that I'll cut some slack before bitching too heavily about him.

A long snapper, a kicker, a fullback, and a pass-catching specialist RB in college? Hmmm.... Not sure why there wasn't an OL taken, and I'll never understand how a LS can't be picked up off the heap.

I like this Red Bryant kid a lot. He's an interesting guy. He's 24, already completed his degree, was named Team Captain as a redshirt freshman. Definitely hugh at 6-4/318 in a position where we have a gigantic need for stability. Combined with the pick of Jackson @ 1.28, this gives the Seahawks a gigantic defensive line, and definitely solidifies one of the best pass rushes in the NFL. Should be quite fascinating to watch these kids develop (including Tapp and Mebane from last year's draft class).

The FB Owen Schmitt from West Virginia seems like a character guy. His NFL.com bio says he broke 18 facemasks in his WVU career. Current FB Leonard Weaver seems more like an RB anyway, perhaps this is a signal for a change at the position.

The interesting pick is from the 7th Round, Justin Forsett from Cal. Was Marshawn Lynch's backup for two years, then got 305 carries in 13 games as a senior. At 5-8/196, he's a bit light compared to present Seahawk RBs, but it could be trouble for someone like Maurice Morris if Forsett demonstrates an ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.

I don't completely buy in that Ruskell walks on water in the draft. He hit on Tatupu, Jennings and Trufant (I don't even know if Trufant was his). Other than that, I believe the fact that the Tatupu pick was so good, it kinds of blinds us to some of the players we missed on. Koren, Stevens, Tubbs, Boulware, Hamlin, Spencer, Tapp & Deion Branch were all taken with our high picks the last few years. You can argue that they didn't "hit" on any of them.

I am wondering which one of our head coaches had more input in this draft. I would have thought that the Seahawks would have been after more immediate help. It seems like we drafted quite a few prospects. The fullback seems like a potential savage. I understand the longsnapper, after how terrible our snapping was last year. I would have liked to have seen a lineman or receiver. With Adams, I thought we had decent DE depth, I would have rather seen Balmer or trade down for Laws, but we'll see, it's still too early.

He has great hands. He'll be one of the best third down backs in the NFL in a season or two.

He doesn't have the size that most backs have, but he is amazingly smart and is a quick decision maker. Can get himself open out in space, and can take the hits across the middle.

While he isn't the best blocker in the world, he is very quick at picking up the blitz if it appears the QB will be in trouble.

Runs very low to the ground, and is hard to bring down.

Don't count on him every being a feature back though. Never really showed great durability, splitting carries with Marshawn, and then RBBC with Best/Montgomery

I've been fairly critical of Ruskell, but never to the extent I'd criticize him for a drafting bunch of guys he had no part of. I'm pretty sure that Koren, Stevens, Tubbs, Boulware, and Hamlin were drafted by someone else.

Yeah - the Inscrutable One, Trader Ted Thompson. The most hated man in Green Bay every draft day.

I'll leave the grading to the expurts who seem to blow it most of the time anyways. It's apparent that going into the off season, the Seattle FO didn't think it needed much immediate help on there offense besides the running game. With the acquisitions of Wahle, Duckett, and Jones; and the what I'd expect to be fairly immediate run blocking help from Carlson and Schmitt, I hope the Hawks have upgraded their running game from piss-poor to mediocre.

With all the recent additions on their D-line, it should be one of the best in the NFL. If Tapp stays healthy (yea yea yea....), the D-line has the ability to be very very good. Regardless, it should still be one of the top 10 groups in the NFL....if they can only figure out the right cleats to wear on the road... :D

No WRs drafted, which would have been kind of retarded after letting Hackett go for peanuts. Obamanu might introduce himself to fantasy owners this year, much like Hackett did two years ago.

If the passing game suffers a setback and the running game doesn't improve, there will be a fair share of finger pointing. I don't think they are good enough to win a superbowl in Holmgrens last year, but you never know, the Giants did it last year.

How's Branch working out for you guys? :D

Not all that good...to the point I'd consider it a bust. He needs to step it up this year, although the buzz is he might be out until mid-season. Regardless, I guess I'd rather spend a low first round pick on Branch than a #4 on Troy Williamson. :brew:

I think that was a #7, not that it matters much though. They coiud have chosen Ware, merriman or Derrick Johnson.

The Seahawks gave up a #24 for Branch.

I agree Williamson sucks, but if you pull up a all time worst draft picks list, you'll find the Seahawks are frequent offenders.

Bosworth - Supplemental, but truly a collosal screw up.

McGwire - 16th overall (crappy QB year, but was the first QB drafted)

Mirer - 2nd overall (the year Favre came out)

KRob - 9th overall

JStevens - 28th overall (maybe not worst ever, but still bad:))

I'm not saying the Vikes are perfect, but living here (Seattle) and having to hear about how great they are (now), it grates on me to remember how bad this team was, and how few fans they had, and to hear it now you'd think these guys (and gals) had been around forever. I have a Mirer jersey in my closet, I used to be a Hawks fan (when I was a kid), I will not let my children follow in my mistakes.

-My daughter has a Hasselbeck jersey, but I can justify it because it's pick, and it's a jersey were her two biggest reason for liking it.

Can't forget about the great Lamar King pick!

So.....what then has Ruskell done other than Tatupu?? Anything that lands on the positive side??

I'd lay off the Hawks with drafts like your Viqueens have had...

Robert Smith - 21 overall, Not a hugh bust, but it took him 4 seasons to do anything, then he retired.

Derrick Alexander - 11th overall, picked ahead of Hugh Douglas and Sapp. Sucked.

Dwayne Rudd - 20th overall, Bust, went all over the NFL, then single handedly lost a game against the Chiefs when he played for the Browns with his helmet stunt.

Dimitrius Underwood - 29th overall, Walked out of training camp on the first day because he wouldn't balance football and God. Truly mentally unstable.

Michael Bennett - 27th overall, One decent season. Otherwise, sucked.

Troy Williamson, 7th overall

My point isn't to say that one team has sucked worse than the other. My point is that EVERY team in the NFL has their good handful of 1st round busts. Otherwise we wouldn't be seeing superstar players from the 7th round.

Do you expect him to draft an all-pro with nothing but late picks or something? He hasn't had a top 20 pick since being the GM of the Hawks.

Here is one guy's opinion:

General manager Tim Ruskell has headed the past three drafts after coach Mike Holmgren was stripped of personnel power. With the exception of oft-injured defensive tackle Marcus Tubbs (2004), the Seahawks have gotten excellent yield out of players chosen in the first three rounds.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8068662...of-last-5-years.

Ruskell deserves his share of criticism for such things like the Hutch debacle and the Branch trade. I hardly see how one could criticize the first 3 drafts he has had since arriving at Seattle.
