Chief Dick
Clearly Carl did not draft the first day. But, unfortunately, he drafts the 2nd day. This part was good. Carl = not involved.: Round 1, Pick 5 (5) Glenn Dorsey DT 6'2" 316 LSU Round 1, Pick 15 (15) (From Lions) Branden Albert OG 6'6" 309 Virginia Round 2, Pick 4 (35) Brandon Flowers CB 5'10" 189 Virginia Tech This part was meh. Carl = involved. Round 3, Pick 10 (73) (From Broncos through Vikings) Jamaal Charles RB I'm kind of OK with this pick, but we need OL bad. Round 3, Pick 13 (76) (From Lions) Brad Cottam TE 6'8" 270 Tennessee We need a TE, now that Dunn is out. This is ok. Round 3, Pick 19 (82) (From Vikings) DaJuan Morgan S 6'0" 205 North Carolina State Not good with this pick. We have 2 young safeties already, so not a big need position. Still no OL at this point other than Albert. Round 4, Pick 6 (105) Will Franklin WR 6'1" 214 Missouri This is a good pick. Good complement to Bowe. Round 5, Pick 5 (140) Brandon Carr CB 6'0" 207 Grand Valley State Don't know enough, except he's a DII player, and we still haven't added another OL yet. Round 6, Pick 4 (170) Barry Richardson OT 6'7" 320 Clemson At this point, you want bodies. And finally another OL. Round 6, Pick 16 (182) (From Vikings) Kevin Robinson WR 6'0" 190 Utah State Still need bodies for OL. Round 7, Pick 3 (210) Brian Johnston DE 6'5" 276 Gardner-Webb Carl is trying to reach for another Jerod Allen from a small school. Round 7, Pick 32 (239) (From Giants) Mike Merritt TE Central Florida Great, another TE. In summary, day one was an A. No doubt about that. On day two, the Chiefs didn't do enough in the 3rd round considering they had THREE PICKS in the 3rd. They took a safety, which was not a HUGE need position. They took a RB, which isn't a terrible pick, but we need blockers. And the TE pick is just OK. From there on they took projects, other than Franklin, and it's questionable when he will truly make an impact. We took TWO OFFENSIVE LINEMAN, in a draft that was deep in OL. And we took TWO TIGHT ENDS. WHY???? Day two was a D, which makes the final grade a C+, maybe a B-. Very disappointing considering the great start they had. rattsass
I have to say that I was disapointed (but not surprised) that they did not address the offensive line. Nothing else matters if they can't win the war up front and they did not adequately address that problem. Typical.
muck
I agree (pretty much), CD. We should have used at least one third rounder on the OL and should have used at least one other pick on the OL. We didn't need a S ... AND ... two CBs. We didn't need two TEs. We got (imo) the minimum of two DLs. We added no QB. We added a situational RB, not someone that could carry the load in the even that LJ goes down for an extended period. ...this will be a draft that will go down as a "what could have been"... KC controlled nearly 5% of all draft picks (12 of 252) ... and, yet, I feel pretty confident that we did not end up with 5% of the talent. Day 1 = A+ Day 2 = F OVERALL = C- (simply because of the sheer number of messed up picks on day two overshadows the glory of day one) Edited April 27, 2008 by muck
