Post Draft Fantasy Draft Rookie Ranking

OK so I will go out on a limb and try and put together a top 10 ranking.

1. Kevin Smith RB DET 6'1" 217lbs: Ends up with the best situation after the draft. The Kittens will commit much more to the run then last year. Actually, they couldn't commit less to the run.

2. Darren McFadden RB OAK 6'2" 210lbs: Most will have him ranked #1, I have a hard time even ranking him as high as #2. He lands in the "Black Hole" with an unproven QB with an OL that won't have words such as stalwart and studly used to describe it and more RBs rostered then Al Davis has terry cloth jogging suits. Well at least the receiving corps will take some of the pressure off...oh wait  scratch that.

3. Jonathan Stewart RB CAR 5'11" 235lbs: Yes he will share carries with DeAngelo Williams but DeWill should be the CoP back with Stewart taking the bulk of the carries. Carolina needs to win now (actually, Fox and Hurney) so they will do what they do best and that is get Steve Smith the ball but Stewart should help to revive a running game and add a bit of balance to the overall game plan. Another plus is that FF GM's don't have to worry about Stewart losing GL carries.

4. Rashard Mendenhall RB PIT 5'11" 210lbs: Willie Parker owners were all like :D quickly followed by a bout of :D Parker should still see the bulk of the carries but Mendenhall is going to get worked into the game plan and will see his fare share of GL carries too. If Parker and the steelers part way in a couple of years Mendenhall will most likely be the #1 RB to come out of this class. For those that are wondering, Parker's contract status is: 2008: $2.9 million, 2009: $3.35 million, 2010: Free Agent. If you really want to plan for the future (2010) then move Mendenhall all the way up to #1, imo.

5. Matt Forte RB CHI 6'2" 222lbs: Next to Kevin Smith Forte probably fell into the best opportunity. Some will point to the highly drafted underwhelming Cedric Benson and say this is far to high to rank Forte. What those people may be forgetting is that not only was Benson injured last year but there were/are rumors that it could be career threatening. Heck for that matter a hangnail at this point in his career would be career threatening.

6. Felix Jones RB DAL 6'0" 200lbs: Jones falls into a situation where he wont be a feature back but he will still see enough carries to be a productive fantasy back. Jones can't be less effective then the Jones he will replace, can he? One major drawback short of the sharing aspect is Jones won't really see many if any GL carries.

7. Devin Thomas WR WAS 6'2" 215lbs: Thomas should have little problem breaking into the starting lineup by pushing Randel El to the slot. Zorn is on record saying that he is gonna run Portis into the ground (yes, I am paraphrasing :brew: ) but with the draft that he just had it sure seems like he is gonna make sure that his QB is gonna have the toys needed to make the offense work.

8. James Hardy WR BUF 6'6" 220lbs: ZERO, ZERO touchdowns is what Josh Reed accounted for from the #2 WR position last year. Hardy should be a nice complement for the speedy Lee Evans. Hardy will provide a nice red zone target for Trent Edwards who will be entering his sophomore season.

9. Jerome Simpson WR CIN 6'2" 190lbs: The Bengals have said repeatedly that they will not trade Chad Johnson but I don't believe it. I think Jerome Simpson will open the season as the Bengal's #2 WR due to the absence of a traded Chad Johnson. All those FF GM's that were waiting to see what Chris Henry would be able to do in Cinn as their #2 are about to find out via Jerome Simpson.

10. Matt Ryan QB ATL 6'5" 224lbs: Chris Redman had a nice run at the end of last season but I think that Ryan starts from day 1. Sure he will initially struggle but outside of Big Ben what 1st year starting QB hasn't. Atlanta still has a way to go with their rebuilding efforts but this past weekend seems like they are traveling down the right path (fwiw, I think they should have taken Dorsey) so Ryans stock will only grow as that of the Falcons goes.

Guys just outside the top 10(no particular order): Jamaal Charles RB KC, Earl Bennett WR CHI, Chris Johnson RB TEN, Chad Henne QB MIA, Joe Flacco QB BAL, Dustin Keller TE NYJ

Interesting situation in Washington. Malcolm Kelly could possibly out-perform Devin Thomas... makes it tough to take either until you see how they compete for playing time with each other.

I, like many, worry about Kelly's knees....but it wouldnt be far fetched seeing Kelly and Thomas as #1/2 with SMoss ending up as a slot WR...i just doubt that happens this year but you never know.

I don't own a single #2 pick in any league...highest I own is a 1.3(inherited team) and if by some crazy stretch of the imagination McFadden made it to me at 1.3 I wouldnt be taking him...but i am sure someone else would overpay to take that pick off my hands
