The Wolf
As per ESPN.com: The Oakland Raiders notified halfback Dominic Rhodes that he is being released. The move wasn't much of a surprise. The Raiders invested the fourth pick in the first round of the NFL draft on halfback Darren McFadden. With McFadden, Michael Bush, Justin Fargas and LaMont Jordan under contract, someone had to be the odd man out, and it turned out to be Rhodes. The salary cap was behind Rhodes' release. When the Raiders traded cornerback Fabian Washington to Baltimore Sunday, they took a $1.093,750 cap hit, putting them over the salary cap. Rhodes had a $1.75 million salary, enough to put the Raiders back under the cap once he was released. Rhodes, 29, signed a two-year contract with the Raiders last year. He was suspended for four games last season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, and ended up rushing for only 302 yards on 75 carries. Perhaps they need him healthy first, as with Alexander.

ROYALWITCHEESE
Why couldn't Oakland release him if he was not healthy? Not sure. Why did Seattle wait until SA passed his physical?
Big John
Why couldn't Oakland release him if he was not healthy? The CBA prohibits releasing injured players unless an injury settlement is made and that amount goes against the salary cap.
budlitebrad
Why couldn't Oakland release him if he was not healthy? I'm not positive, but I assume they would have to negotiate an injury settlement in that case. EDIT: BJ always wins... BeeR
I wouldn't mind the Colts giving Rhodes a look on the cheap.
tbimm
I wouldn't mind the Colts giving Rhodes a look on the cheap. Many teams will take a long look at Rhodes. Key is he as well as others are one screw up away from the year long suspension. This to me is almost as important as the timing based cap hit. He will be payed accordingly or he won't be signed. Allen was a different deal because of the impact he could have. Same risk and way higher potential reward.

Did you read the Yahoo Sports article where Sapp talked about how out of shape Jordan was? Pretty interesting coming from somone who now has nothing to lose by being honest about it. LaMont is like the worst offseason running back I’ve ever been around; he was out of shape and couldn’t keep it going
Zooty
I heard on Sirius this morning that they were interested in bringing him back. I heard on Sirius this afternoon that Polian said they weren't Well actually he gave the generic "we'll look at all the available FAs"

A brief note in the Chicago Tribune a day or so ago said the Bears may take a look at Rhodes. I don't think they can build a big enough dog house at Halas Hall for Cedric. Rhodes should give the Bears the consistent, every down, breakaway threat at RB they've been lacking in Benson.

Savage Beatings
Colts signed RB Dominic Rhodes to a one-year, $605,000 contract. Draft Mike Hart, re-sign Dominic Rhodes... goodbye Kenton Keith?
BeeR
I sure as hell hope not; KK is still probably their best back behind Addai.

Bill Swerski
Colts signed RB Dominic Rhodes to a one-year, $605,000 contract. That's fine with me. I don't know how much he has left in the tank, but that price tag is very low-risk. Keith is a solid rusher, but can't do anything else... and those other things are important in the Colts offense. BeeR
better than Rhodes? I don't think so . . . Better runner, plus youth on his side. Can't catch though. That's fine with me. I don't know how much he has left in the tank, but that price tag is very low-risk. Keith is a solid rusher, but can't do anything else... and those other things are important in the Colts offense. Yep, good recap.
