Cooley To See Less Catches?

With the additional acquisitions of Redskins WR Devin Thomas and WR Malcolm Kelly, TE Chris Cooley will likely stay at the tight end position in four-receiver sets or come off the field if the team uses a running back.

The Redskins had used Cooley as a receiving option in the slot because of the lack of talent behind WR Santana Moss. Cooley should still be considered a TE1, but don't expect a raise in his fantasy numbers from last year.

Russell in Great Shape

According to Raider coach Lane Kiffin, QB JaMarcus "Russell hasn't missed a day of offseason activity. The offense isn't allowed to work together as a unit yet, but the quarterbacks meet with DeFilippo and often Knapp for an hour and 45 minutes each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and Russell then works on footwork and throws for another hour on the field. He's a regular in the weightroom, too. Most of the guys are here really three or four hours a day. He's here about 5½, six hours a day. . . . By far, he's in the best shape since I've seen him, even if you go back to his pro day in college."

If you own Russell, we're sure you like this news. Keep in mind it could be your typically off season coach-speak. If true, it does contradict a Sports Illustrated note nearly two months ago that Russell had ballooned to nearly 300 pounds.

Pacman Must Play Well To Get Paid

Cowboys DB Pacman Jones' contract will go up if he hits an escalator that would raise his 2011 base salary to the franchise tag for a cornerback.

The Cowboys also used a draft pick on a cornerback in the first round of the draft, so it's not known yet on how the team will use Jones if he is reinstated by the league.

Lions Sign Pinner

The Lions signed RB Artose Pinner on Wednesday.

The Lions just drafted RB Kevin Smith to compete with Tatum Bell and Brian Calhoun for the starting RB spot and now Pinner will also get his chance. It is unlikely that Pinner ends up as more than a backup and we have our money on Smith and Bell to get the carries in Week 1.

Eddie Royal's Role

Denver Post sports columnist Woody Paige discussed the anticipated role of second round pick WR Eddie Royal. "Eddie Royal is a return man, a very good one. He was drafted to return kickoffs and punts. And despite what you think about WR DeSean Jackson, he has some ""issues," if you get my drift, and the Broncos have had enough "issues" players in recent years. Royal is a return man now, a wide receiver of the future, maybe. And you can never have enough M&M's and wide receivers. Royal also is a slot receiver, and the Broncos only have one, and he is prone to injury."

Rookie WRs usually take time to develop. If you're in a league that rewards points for kick and punt yardage, perhaps he'll be more attractive.

Jackson To Play Receiver

The Eagles are planning on using WR DeSean Jackson as the punt returner and "could have some plays designed for him" as well.

With Jackson's speed, how can you not get him in the offense somehow? If he can add more muscle to his small 169 pound frame, he could have a solid shot at winning the #3 spot. He could be a decent option down the road, but don't draft him expecting much from him this season.

No kidding? Jackson is a receiver? With the potential to make it as a WR3? He "could" have plays designed for him? We shouldn't expect much production from a 1st year wide receiver?

:D

This one was written by a clown.
