Marvin Harrison is not the target of an investigation into a shooting in Philadelphia earlier this week, according to the agent of the Indianapolis Colts wide receiver.

Refuting Internet reports that cited unnamed sources,Tom Condon, Harrison's agent, told ESPN's Chris Mortensen: "I've spoken with Marvin and I've spoken with his attorney, and they say the reports are erroneous. Marvin was not involved in any shooting, and he is not the subject of this investigation.''

Repeated phone messages left by The Star with Condon and Jerome Brown, Harrison's Philadelphia-based attorney, were not returned.

A spokesman for the Philadelphia Police Department said no update in the investigation was anticipated Saturday afternoon. The Colts had no comment.

On Friday, Philadelphia police confirmed that Harrison, 35, was one of several people questioned about a shooting in Harrison's old North Philadelphia neighborhood Tuesday that resulted in one man being shot in the hand and a young boy suffering an eye injury from shattered glass.

Lt. Frank Vanore described the incident as "an ongoing investigation,'' adding that "we have no suspect at this time.'' An incident report has not been released.

Vanore said the shooting occurred about 5 p.m. Tuesday near a garage and car detail shop that Harrison owns, and not far from Harrison's bar, Playmakers.

According to the Philadelphia Daily News, six shots were fired during the incident. An unidentified 32-year-old man was hit in the hand by one of the bullets and a 2-year-old boy suffered a cut under an eye from shattered glass when a stray shot hit the windshield of the car the two were riding in.

The man's condition has not been released, but police said the injury was not life-threatening. The boy was treated at a local hospital and released.

The NFL is aware of the incident and is looking into it.

Well, when an impartial source with absolutely no financial interest says that a person wasn't involved in the shooting, who's to doubt him?

Philadelphia police said there were no new developments in the case involving Indianapolis Colts receiver Marvin Harrison on Sunday as they focused on another case involving the fatal shooting of a police officer.

Harrison was questioned by police about a shooting Tuesday near a car detail shop he owns in the North Philadelphia neighborhood where he grew up.

Marvin Harrison assured the Indianapolis Colts he was not involved in a shooting last month in his hometown of Philadelphia.

Owner Jim Irsay said Monday he hopes that's the case.

"We look at everything seriously if we have an incident with any of our players. At the same time we want to make sure that we know what the facts are," Irsay said.

In conversations with coach Tony Dungy and team president Bill Polian, Harrison insisted he was not involved in an April 29 incident in Harrison's North Philadelphia neighborhood that resulted in a man suffering a gunshot wound to his hand and a 2-year-old boy sustaining a cut under his eye when a stray bullet shattered a car's windshield.

Philadelphia police have confirmed that a gun owned by Harrison was used in the shooting. They interviewed Harrison shortly after the incident but do not consider the receiver a suspect.

"It's an ongoing investigation and we are following leads wherever they take us," Lt. Richie Brown, a Philadelphia detective, said. "Mr. Harrison is cooperating fully with the police department."

Irsay said the Colts' security department has been in contact with NFL security in Philadelphia as well as with Philadelphia law enforcement.

"At this point I'm keeping my fingers crossed," he said. "We've done everything we could do in our diligence to try to discern what happened. He said he was not involved in that shooting and . . . the authorities have said there is nothing imminent.

"You hope these things hold up to be true, that there won't be any charges and there wasn't any involvement. Until we hear more, this isn't even a case of innocent until proven guilty because there hasn't been a charge yet."

Irsay described Harrison, 35, as "a tremendous asset to the franchise, both on and off the field," since the Colts selected him in the first round of the 1996 draft.

The Colts' three-day minicamp begins Friday, and every player under contract is required to attend unless he's excused by the team. Irsay wasn't certain if Harrison will return to Indy. Harrison is in rehabilitation after injuring his left knee last season and undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

"He would be here participating if that's what the trainers and medical people and Tony want him to do," Irsay said.

this was the most informative line in the whole story. Who knows what's going on with this gun thing . . . but Marvin is still in rehab for his knee and might not be able to participate in the upcoming 3 day camp? And he had surgery on the right knee too?

In a related story, Ted Kacsynski's attorney has denied all of his client's involvement in the crimes that he for which he had convicted:

"These allegations of Ted being the Unabomber are patently untrue. Ted has no idea how all that bomb making equipment got into his cabin, and that he was in fact vacationing in Cancun at the time of each of the bombings. We look forward to Ted's release as soon as his appeal is heard."
