A fifth-round draft pick from UCLA, Slater took snaps at both receiver and safety during the team's two-day rookie minicamp. "We'll do that this weekend and in spring camp and see how it goes," coach Bill Belichick said. "He'll learn both spots. We'll evaluate it and see how it looks." Slater said playing multiple positions in college prepared him for double duty with the Patriots. Learning multiple positions is a sure way to see the field for Belichick's Pats. He is a great kick returner and took back three for touchdowns this year at UCLA. According to Eagles OC Marty Mornhinweg, the team would like to spread the ball around more this year and lessen RB Brian Westbrook's workload. Westbrook was the Eagles offense last year, racking up over 2000 combined in rushing and receiving. This is quite an accomplishment for Portis, who is looking to make a good impression with the new coaching staff this year. Most of the time the coaching staff would leave the secondary in man-to-man coverage knowing their cornerbacks could handle it. In his three seasons playing for the Buckeyes Whitner can only remember one exception, Indiana receiver James Hardy. "Playing Indiana we didn't care about the receiver on the other side, even if they put five receivers on the field we didn't care," recalled Whitner. "We played everybody else man-to-man and we kept two guys on him. He's a mismatch." The Hardy hype will continue all summer long. Desperate for a tight end with receiving skills, the Bills expect Fine to make an early impact in the passing game. “I think if you’re a tight end and you make the team you’re a guy who is going to be involved immediately in a lot of things,” tight end coach Charlie Coiner said. “I see him as a guy who will come in and contribute in different positions in our offense. He can line up next to the tackle; he can line up as a wing or line up as the second tight end. Baker has since threatened to boycott the team’s off-season training activities. "He outperformed his contract the last two years,” Baker’s agent, Jonathan Feinsod, said last week. “He’s severely underpaid. He’d like to be brought up to market.” We wonder if the Jets even did "bring him up to market value", would Baker be happy fighting for playing time against rookie TE Dustin Keller and TE Bubba Franks.
