bushwacked
I don't know if this was especially noteworthy in the past, but I've always had a special place in my heart for this guy as a #3/4 WR. His 94 receptions/1,100+ yards last year helped me considerably in several leagues. With Branch likely out for a minimum of a few weeks, this has pertinent fantasy football implications: http://blogs.thenewstribune.com/seahawks/2...th_his_contract Engram is displeased, according to the source, that he was the team’s most productive wide receiver last season but is scheduled to be its third-highest paid wideout this year. Engram is in the final year of a contract that will pay him $1.7 million this season, while injured flanker Deion Branch will make $3.5 million as well as a $660,000 roster bonus and split end Nate Burleson will make $3.25 million. He spent 7 years as a Seattle Seahawk doing everything and more than what was asked of him, I can't say I blame Bobby for trying to get a little bit of his deserved payday. Darrel Jackson 2, Senior Citizen Electric Boogaloo. I hope he comes back, unless we can cajole San Fran into giving us another 2nd day draft pick. Donutrun Jellies
Wow. I wonder why he signed a three-year contract if he wasn't happy with the terms of the deal?
Kid Cid
Wow. I wonder why he signed a three-year contract if he wasn't happy with the terms of the deal? 3 year contract asa #3 WR = good deal. 3 year contract as their #1 WR = not so good deal. i_am_the_swammi
3 year contract asa #3 WR = good deal. 3 year contract as their #1 WR = not so good deal. Shame on him....if he signed the deal, I guess he too felt he was only worth #3 money. Also, the report makes no mention of what he received as a signing bonus when he signed that deal...only what his salary in 2008 will be. I just love it when these athletes conveniently forget they were given multiple-millions when they signed the deal, then complain that their salary isn't high enough. byron2112
I dunno if you guys are just being funnymen about him signing a contract, But Engram is just the kinda guy that deserves a raise. He's the total team player. All the guys that have come and gone as they try to upgrade that recieveing corp, he's always been the steady, productive one... the most clutch reciever they've had since he's been there. Now last year he emerges as a pretty productive #1 for them. This is one old man that deserves to get paid, cause believe me, without him there that passing would have collapsed years ago. Seahawks21
He deserves to get paid as much as anyone in this league. I just don't see it happening. The Hawks are way up against the cap as it is. It isn't like the Hawks will be afraid that Engram will hold out. He would never do something like that, therefore, he loses almost all of his leverage. Hopefully Holmgren still has enough pull to get him something, but I just don't see it happening at this point in his career, with the Seahawks at this point in their history. Just bad timing. My second favorite Seahawk, and it is a darn shame, but there just isn't any extra money for him.
Randall
This is funny. Bobby Engram slipped a typewritten note under Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren's door Tuesday morning detailing why he is not at voluntary OTAs. "I kind of enjoy that. It means he graduated from college and he can type," Holmgren said of the Penn State alum. "We need Bobby. There are business decisions to be made. But I hope (team executives and Engram) work it out." This'll get done.
Seahawks21
Word from the Seahawks is that they will not be entering negotiations with Bobby Engram. I don't have a link, but it was a popular debate on local sports radio all day. They knew that Bobby will play and play well. Ruskell also kind of built a reputation of making guys play out their current contract before they get a new one. If he makes an exception, it could open a floodgate of other players wanting exceptions. The one big negative that this could have is on the practice field. We need Bobby Engram to coach Obomanu, Taylor & Kent. If he has a bad attitude at practice and just does the minimum and gets by, it could have some implications down the road. The Seahawks are gambling that he will be the standout employee that he always has been regardless of whether or not he gets paid. My bet is that they are probably right. byron2112
It's a shame because Engram isn't one these guys that signed a fat contract with a massive bonus, then two-three years down the line sees he's slipped down the highest paid scale. This is a guy that's truly outplayed his contract, and has done everything he's been asked to do without complaint. I guess if the Hawks don't have the money they don't have the money, but it seems they could at least slip him a mil or two in some form of bonus short of a massive new contract... Maybe he could honor the contract he signed, enjoy the raises it contains that he wanted when he signed it, and then be rewarded based on his performance in his next contract. I respect what Engram has done on the field - fun to watch. However, holding out hurts the team's ability to prepare, so it crosses the line. Plus, I've got to wonder what good these agents are if they constantly have to renegotiate because they didn't get the right incentives built in, didn't get the right escalations built in, didn't anticipate or couldn't communicate their clients success/impact -- and so have to resort to a hold out to correct their mistakes?? Isn't that like getting political advice from Rush Limbaugh? It's all speculation.
The Wolf
You had to know at some point that the poison pill contract Seattle signed Nate Burleson to would come back to bite them in the butt. All because Minny sighed Steve Hutchinson...geez.

He was signed to be a 3rd/slot reciever, he's now emerged as their #1. All situations aren't created equal. Some guys are greedy bitches, and some guys actually earn a raise alittle early... I kinda prefer the case by case approcah and rewarding people that do right over the broadbrush approach where everyone's painted a greedy bastard. Seahawks21
Talk radio? Isn't that like getting political advice from Rush Limbaugh? It's all speculation. Actually there are a few members of our sports radio talent that have "inside" info with the Seahawks. Also, this was reported as coming from the Seahawks directly. They ran the story every half hour when they did sports updates. KJR 950 is a very reliable source in regards to their Seahawks content. They even had a statement from Ruskell explaining how much of a professional Bobby Engram is and how he will be a free agent next season, which will allow him to make his money at that time. This is not in any way speculation. Bobby isn't getting any money. He also will not hold out. This will only be a story again if Engram shows a bad attitude at practice, which again, has a very minute chance of happening. He tried, and the Seahawks didn't go for it. It is that simple. Belushi
This would be perfect. I got killed in the draft as an owner of Willie Parker and DeAngelo Williams. I just picked up Engram in our RFA auction, and now he's holding out. Not a good start to the season.

The problem is that as a 36 year old UFA he will not get paid. He will get a 1 year deal at about the same salary he's getting now. The one standup guy that's don nothing but everything asked of him without a complaint is gonna be the one guy that gets shafted by the team. Nicely done. I can understand why he wants his payday now.
godtomsatan
He tried, and the Seahawks didn't go for it. It is that simple. All he skipped out on was voluntary workouts. He also signed his contract coming off a season where he was diagnosed with a thyroid condition which had caused him to miss half the year.
