So Randall, just come straight with it, how many free t-shirts are you looking to score exactly? j/k :D

 Wonder how many will email them demanding that price for existing leagues.

Here is the response they sent me.

-------------------------------------------

Hi Adam,

Thanks for touching base. The complete details of the May promotion are here:

http://www.myfantasyleague.com/referral-offer.php

Basically, we're using this promotion to try to reach out to new leagues that have never tried MyFantasyLeague.com, and especially for owners that have other leagues but don't currently run them with mfl. We're hoping the discount is enough of an incentive to get leagues to make the switch, as our past experience has shown that it's always been very tough. So it's not available for existing leagues. You can still take advantage of a $20 discount that we offer for early bird purchases, so you can purchase your league for $69.95 if you do so before June 10th. Hopefully that all makes sense and is something that your league can take advantage of here in the next few weeks. Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks,

Mike Hall

I've got a couple friends that are starting up a new league this year, so I sent them this referral.

Figure if I can save them some money and also bring in some business for a company I have alot of respect for, don't see the big deal if they get it for a little cheaper then my own league has to pay for it.

Besides....I'm getting a new t-shirt out of the deal! :D

This certainly isn't anything new. New customers for the "Comcast Triple Play" for example get a better deal to switch over from , say verizon, than what I'm paying now for the Triple Play..

I didn't say it was anything new. But they are trusting that their current base is so happy with their service that they will overlook new customers paying substantially less for their league while the older leagues - some of whom have been very loyal since they first set up for business - will look the other way, shrug their shoulders, and suck up the normal cost.

As one of their older customers, personally I'm offended by it. I've pimped mfl.com regularly as a management service, but given this new tactic I'll probably back off on that. Hell, if anyone has earned a discount, it's the leagues that were there during their startup & then the year that CBS Sportsline tried to sink them by going free, and have remained with them them since.

They think this is necessary to increase their base - that's fine and their decision. I, as a long time loyal customer and a strong public advocate for them, don't have to like it and that's my decision. I'll certainly be open to looking into other services and possibly moving leagues, which I never would have considered before. They changed the rules of the game, and business is business, after all.

I'm serious...my league's on CBS but I want to move them. I've got the Weapons of DMD set up on MFL so can I refer myself?

On another note, I hope they've upgraded their servers to handle the new business I'm sure this will create. Not that they were down (often) last season but they can't expect the increased traffic to be handled adequately...

Thanks for asking. Yes, you can definitely refer your other league! Start by upgrading your existing 2007 league to the new season. Then after that is done, go to the "Help > What's New" menu item, and click on the link from there to access the latest commissioner news. Then you should see the referral link that you can click on to set up the new league and get started with it. Let me know if you need more info or have questions about this.

Are you talking to yourself again, Loaf?

Good to know. I'll keep that one in the memory banks.

why not just cancel your existing league , open a new league , then get the new pricing ?

You can import all scoring etc to the new league automatically.

I have 2 Packer fan leagues. I'll try referring myself and see what happens.

Don't worry,I see your point. Seems like 3 months after I sign up for something, the "new" customers get the same thing for less $$.

I see your point Bronco Billy. I have been a very loyal user of MFL and moreover FFLM for many years. I have turned a lot of people on to them as well. However, I sort of feel like Mike Hall did toss me a bone or two along the way when he knew that I was involved. I am not saying that you have to like the fact that others can get it cheaper. The Comcast thing posted up there makes me crazy with them. But I think we have to keep focus on how well Mike Hall has treated us in the past and how much we like the MFL product.

That's a very good point, Skip, and thanks for injecting some sanity after my rant. It still rankles me a bit, but your perspective makes it more palettable.
